I'm with Zombiezilla on this. Most of the live albums I own are for a sense of "completeness" to a collection. Occasionally, there will be a particular track that I prefer to the studio version. Those are few and far between. I'm trying for the life of me to remember what the last live album I bought was.
It’s a digression from the thread title but since it was mentioned . . .
Live albums that are SO not “crap”.
There are plenty of others I own (and listen to or watch repeatedly), but these are the ones that were played over-and-over-and-over-and-over (as vinyl, CD’s or DVD’s) . . .
• Thin Lizzy – Live And Dangerous (1978)
• Sammy Hagar – Live, Loud And Clear (1978)
• Ted Nugent – Double Live – Gonzo! (1978)
• Blackfoot – Highway Song Live (1982)
• Thin Lizzy – Life (1983)
• Scorpions – World Wide Live (1985)
• Iron Maiden – Rock In Rio (2002)
• Whitesnake – Live – In The Still Of The Night (2006)
• Paul Stanley – One Live Kiss (2008)
“Live And Dangerous” and “Rock In Rio” stand head and shoulders above the rest for number of plays, but I have listened to (or watched) all of these over 100 times each throughout the years.
Love me some live stuff – and (I know I’ve said it before) – I really miss the UK concert scene in its heyday. So many happy memories.

Really?
I think I have watch Rock in Rio a total of 5 times since I got it when it came out.
Cannot stand Steve's heavy editing. All those jump-cuts just ruins the whole thing for me.
Now, the TV broadcast version is a thing of beauty.
And without the audio editing.

I remember you saying you weren't a fan of Steve's editing before. I really like it though.
I'd watched the TV version dozens of times before I picked up the DVD. I know it is shorter but thought it was just selected songs not different editing
"Blood Brothers" with the perfectly synchronised / arms raised / audience hand-claps always makes my hairs stand on end and brings a tear to my eyes. Best live version of "Fear Of The Dark" as well. By FAR my fave ever Maiden set list too. "Sign Of The Cross", "The Clansman" and all the "Brave New World" tracks make it perfect (since it was recorded about the same time we moved to Canada ).

Talking about the Brazilian TV broadcast that was aired live.
Pretty much the same as watching a 'screen feed' at a show.
