Threw on some primer to see how it looked all tied together.
Some refining and detailing left to do for sure.

Roughly attached the portal to the back.
I am using 3 bases from Blackheart micro dragon heads as columns to support the portal overhang off the back

Working on increasing the size of the top Dias to better support the creature

Added walls to the sides of the steps and around the outer edges to create a basin for some “ectoplasm” (green liquid)

Thanks Vlad - I can’t wait to see how it looks finished either !!

I am way behind on my Wonderfest build schedule due to all the time I am putting into this base.
I know that quality of entries is more important than quantity of kits entered.
However, it is a 10 hour drive from home to Wonderfest, so I like to take a good number of entries to make it worth the drive.

I sure wish that I had Trekkriffic’s skill in doing lighting because I have some cool ideas of adding lighting to the inside loop of the portal , adding lights underneath the ectoplasms, and on top of the alters at the front. But I do not have time to learn how to do lighting.

I can't remember the name of the fella that does custom lighting for folks (haven't got time to look it up right now - maybe someone else can help - he's a well-known & well-respected guy).

Also - cool avatar addition :)

Thanks Ian, I sincerely appreciate the offer, but I would never want anyone else to do lighting, painting or anything else for my kits.

Glad you like my new avatar! One of my very good friends created that for me.

I hope to start making some painting progress on the creature and the base this week.

It's not that you send him the diorama and he adds it.

He has a site that sells various wiring/boards to do different things (like for flickering flames, lanterns etc.), and you would fit it into the build (same idea as buying 3D prints etc. from someone and adding them).

I think he does custom rigs too where you could say what you want and he would build & mail through.

Still - I understand if you haven't got the time or wouldn't want to go that route.

EDIT - I think this is the guy  https://starlightingprojects.weebly.com/ (interviewed in MCTV #08 - Matt Lawrence, The Light Of Our Hobby Lives)

Yeah. Matt's a great guy.
Don't remember seeing him set up at last year's WF. He is on the list for this year though.
So, even if you don't use him for this, would probably be worth stopping at his table and chatting him up on the subject.
Never know what you might learn, or be able to get for your massive builds.

(I can see it now, he'll be lighting the inside of his dragons mouths :D )

Finished detailing the base. It is ready to paint.
I just need to sharpen up some of the spikes on the creature and then it will be ready to paint.
Hopefully I will start painting this weekend.

Ooooh - that spiky tail is quite the eye-catcher in the last photo!

Love the base spike colors - dark and eeeeeevil (as they should be for the most eeevil creature in the universe :alcoholic: )

P.S. Are you gonna add Eric Cartman (aka 'The Coon') riding on his back? [Just in case the reference is unfamiliar - its from a demented "South Park" cartoon episode :mrgreen2: :green_rollin: ]

Looking good.

That lower torso (the currently brownish snake part below his stomach) is crying out for some sort of evil-looking sigil tattoo (I'd avoid the classic "I Luv Mum" though - won't really fit in with the vibe).

Spike's tattoo commentary aside, the green and black washes have really made all those spikes, knobs and texture just POP on the tail. You really are quite the sculptor, I much say!

Thanks Ian, I had considered adding some tattoos but I was thinking arms and chest not the underbelly.
