how to paint a satin texture?
I made this for a client and the suit has a satiny texture to it. how do I get that?
I blocked in the colors and was hoping to airbrush in the hi/lo points then coat it, but in my experiments that is not going to happen like I want it to with a spray. I also toyed with a coating of alclad and a metallic paint over the color. Running short of ideas.
if you have some, let me know. I may have to strip it and start over I realize, but whatever it takes...

You probably want an interference/iridescent magenta, not a metallic.
Something like Golden Interference Red (Fine)
Then a semi-gloss over that.
Other than eyes and lips, I have always found straight gloss to be too glossy on most kits.

Jesse's got several "pearlized" colors in his line, that would match the satin finish almost exactly...otherwise Comart does as well. but try Jesse's paints first.

Metallic Red with Red Iridescent on the high points .. I would even tone down the Metallic Red with some Enhancer

You could try pearl white base with transparents over it.

FWIW, to me, in the sample pic, it also looks like there's a big gradient difference between the base color and the highlight color, and similar with the base color and the deep shadow color. No gradual shades.
Maybe that, with a shiny topcoat, would help the illusion?

I used Pearl Ex dry pigments on this piece for the lapels.

I painted the base color a flat purple then added the pigment to Humbrol Satin clear finish.
