Selling kits without a table

Selling kits without a table
just wanted to throw this question out there. Do you think the show people would have a problem with me selling kits at the show without buying a table. I wont bring them into the vendor rooms, but may do exchanges in the hallway or my room. Im going to put fliers on the table in the hallway. Has anyone else done this?

Not a great idea...kind of a slap in the face to those producers who did buy a table...

Lemme see if I understand this.blackfink wrote:Do you think the show people would have a problem with me selling kits at the show without buying a table. I wont bring them into the vendor rooms, but may do exchanges in the hallway or my room. Im going to put fliers on the table in the hallway.
I spend $700 for two tables, several hundred dollars shipping product, pay for banners, display pieces, giveaways, packaging, marketing, time and effort, donate kits for the raffle, advertise in AFM, buy trophies, support the show and my fellow vendors year after year.
Now you want to circumvent all of that expense, drop a stack of flyers on a table and take money from our potential customers out in the hallways? Dude, you've got some stones, I'll give you that.
Look, folks bring kits to swap and maybe sell a couple up in their rooms, but they keep it quiet and nobody really minds. But to be so brazen about it? Truthfully, I'd say that's probably not such a good idea.
Then again, why not go right to the top and ask Dave Hodge?
Sure hope you've got some fire-retardant underpants.

Thanks guys for your comments. That is what i did want to here. I was thinking it over and this is why i asked the question. What Marc was saying its not fair to vendors who spend all the money buying tables and the lost revenue for the people who put on the show. I do apologize for thinking about doing it. I do want some day to have enough kits to be part of the show. thanks everyone for setting me straight

Re: Selling kits without a table
Glad this didn't get out of hand.
From what I have seen in years past, there is a way to sell some kits at the show without ticking anyone off.
Make arrangements with one of the dealers that does have a table.
Many times I have seen someone carrying one or two kits for another producer.
I'm sure that dealer gets some kind of cut, but all that is negotiated ahead of time.

Thanks for those ideas Trevor.
Re: Selling kits without a table
I know of a certain individual who goes around the tables with a figure in his "paw" and starts asking for an exchange. He has done it with the Japanese guys that sometimes attend the show.

I've had several different people produce my kits or just sell them for me over the years. One or two kits at a time don't take much room and their tables look fuller. Talk shop and make some friends this weekend. I am sure you could set up a deal with someone over a beer. Even here would be a good start. Post a pic of your kits and ask if anyone has room on their table. If you fit their theme, I'm sure someone would take you up on it.
