Shapeways

#1 Post by spriggan »

Hi guys,

Has any member ever ordered dinosaur model from shapeways? I like some of their stuff but was wondering about the quality. For those that had ordered before, do I need to order in frosted ultra detail or the regular plastic (white strong and flexible) is good enough to have the detail on the sculpture. The price difference seems quite significant.

Please let me know.

I have about a half dozen also. I've always ordered the Frosted Detail or Frosted Ultra.
I've seen a few of the ones that "feel grainy" painted up and on the smaller models - yeah they look very grainy. Personally I rather own a few less and order the ones where there is no grain and more detail. But that's just me. HTH.

yet another with 6.. all 72nd scale, all white frosted ultra detail. Go for the best detail you can afford. It will be worth while. Also, do NOT take a paint brush to ultra small models, as it WILL clog the details on the model. And, on my 72nd scale amagrasuar (sp) the detail is phenomenal...

I have half a dozen in white strong and flexible plastic and am very dissapointed with them - very grainy, very visible stepping from the printing and very soft detail - especially around the eyes.
Pentaceratops, Centrosaurus x3, Chasmosaurus x 3, Olorotitan. I liked the idea of having slightly differing sizes of the same animal for dioramas.
I don´t know how much better frosted ultra detail is, considered buying some champsosaurs in 1/20 and 1/40 but I´ve decided not to buy any more 3D printed models until the technology improves.
