The Crow-Brandon Lee Tribute

#1 Post by bishopsix »

Last week I finished John Dennett's "The Crow." The headstones are balsa foam in resin, the base and the bird are Sculpey. This was my first Sculpey endeavor. The crow-shaped base was easier to create than I expected, but the bird was a terror. I didn't get the level of detail I wanted, because handling it too much would cause it to come apart in other places or have the armature wire start to poke through. This piece is a memorial tribute to Brandon Lee as well as the late girlfriend of Crow creator, James O'Barr. When he tells the story of her passing, which inspired his graphic novel, he refers to her only as "The Girl Who Was Shelley." Out of respect for that, I didn't want to find out her real name, but still wanted to make something for her.

I'm very pleased to say that this kit took home 2nd prize in the figure category at Chiller Theatre this weekend.

I always wondered about the pose; I like what you did with it. I've seen two Crows on the site today, and it might motivate me to finish mine!

Yeah, right as I was finishing this, I saw the same kit on a Crinon cemetery base and a different Crow on a custom base with a similar concept to mine. There must be something in the air!

Congrats on the award! Very nice work, one of the better likenesses I've seen. What scale is this?
