Messing with miscible oils.

I emptied the bench and cleaned the shop prepping for the Moebius Discovery that is sitting in UPS purgatory about 10 miles away. It might as well be the moon, since it'll sit there until Tuesday now...

I did get a package of water miscible oils/brushes to mess around with figure shading, so without styrene at hand I grabbed a canvas board and started playing. It's probably been 30 years since I touched oils with a brush and I forgot how hard they are to control, but I am having fun:

This is the start, plenty of blending and detail to go as well as work more color in (there are reds and greens the camera didn't pick up in the low light.

Thanks guys.

Best part of oils is I can go back the next day and push it around some more.

Worst part is I can go back the next day and push it around some more.

I'll take more pics if you're interested in the process.

Looks great! I used to dabble in the oil painting myself back in the day, but I also haven't touched them in years...kinda miss it now.

Thanks guys. Pick up that brush William, I'm really enjoying this, even though I'mm now reminded how much of a pain in the arse oils are. One little brush stroke changes so much. Plus I've got the stuff everywhere now, the turntable, camera, etc.

I'm getting somewhere, but not sure if I want to keep it 'stylized' or shoot for more realistic.

One thing is it's really hard to get a good shot of it since the wet paint is so reflective and without light the colors don't show.

Got some advice on color theory and added reds and blues to the shadows:

Finishing up, paint is getting too gummy to blend and the Moebius Discovery won't build itself...

Will add hair after this dries some more.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.

I think I'll try some other of the horror icons, but I'll just plan better next time.
