HCG Nostromo- insights or opinions?

#1 Post by Foo fighter »

I have only recently discovered that Hollywood Collectibles Group has announced their plans to release the commercial towing vehicle "the Nostromo" statue some time this year. Being an avid fan of the Alien franchise I was curious and tempted to preorder this item. However, before moving forward I wanted to solicit input from members of the Forum and do a bit more research on the item. I know that this item was featured on one of the other forums but was hoping for input from The Clubhouse.

Wow... That's a very cool piece. The Size of it definitely warrants
the price tag. If I didn't already have the Halcyon kit, I would
definitely be tempted!!! But I MUST thank you for the post, as
the pics in the link are phenomenal reference for when I get to
finally working on said kit - LOL.

Looks awesome Richard, I've never heard of this company before, but this looks like the movie prop, very nicely done. If only it was a styrene kit, that would be great fun to build!

Thanks Paul, I thought so too. I purchased one of their 7 foot tall Alien statues which is still standing in my living room about 15 years ago. The quality of the statue was quite good with some help from an artist friend of mine. Some of HCG's other offerings have been good while others have been met with some criticism. They tend to be pricey. What attracted me to this piece is the size- its 26 inches long and 17 inches wide. I have been looking at the Halcyon kit for quite some time but I have too many projects ahead of it and realize that I will not have the time to finish it. There is a youtube video that provides some good closeup shots that was taken at the San Diego Comic Con. My initial reservations is that this piece cannot be modified with LED lighting for example which would add a great deal to the overall impact. But, additional weathering can always be added at some point down the road.

Thanks for the link to the film, it's a beast at 26inches long, that's for sure  Looks very impressive, but I must admit lighting would add another dimension again, especially the engines. When the camera passed across the rear engine view, wouldn't it be awesome if they could be fired up with some flickering blue LED's!
It's a lot of money, but it's a limited edition and a real statement piece for a collection.

As a modeller, I would personally get more satisfaction from building the Halcyon kit, don't throw it away just yet! I've seen these built up with a little TLC and internal lighting and they can look pretty cool. They are also very hard to come by now and quite collectable.

Cheers,
Paul

Its a ship we really need a new kit of and of a decent size. The old Halcyon kit is hard to find making it pricey but I have seen it built well.

A new resin or styrene one would be awesome. This one looks great but way past my budget (at least if I want to stay married)
