Brody's Last Stand

#1 Post by overspray »

Brody, put down the harpoon and use that thing on your back, fool!

Just finished this 1/9 scale kit put out by Resin Realities. What a fun and challenging kit. I love all the little details and I added a few more: a dollhouse bulb in the light fixture, clear plastic eye lenses for Jaws that came from an old car model, real wire for the rigging, rope wrapped around the crows nest, decals on the dive tank and the Orca tail shaped spinner on the mast. The first time I've ever painted a shark, and probably the last. Now I just need to find a place to put it.

Nice work. It sure looks like the Chief. Instantly recognizable.
That figure would be good in the cockpit of a Blue Thunder model too.
How did you do the water?

Ironically, one of the actual Jaws props ended up in a car lot as an advertising prop.

That's great! Love all the details you put into it.

Outstanding, you've really captured the pivotal moment from this classic film! makes me want to watch it again,
I can see this has taken a lot of careful thought, patience and good old fashioned modelling skills, very well done!

Cheers,

I wanted the water to be dark, forbidding and someplace you’d never want to be so I started with a very dark green, almost black. I then sprayed some brown between the crests to muddy it up a little. Then I progressively dry brushed lighter shades of the base green to the higher parts of the waves and finally hit the very top peaks, particularly around the shark, with Woodland Scenics White Water Highlight.

One of the side benefits was watching the movie again - hadn’t seen it in decades and I really enjoyed it. And you are spot on - it took a lot of thought, planning and patience! It was almost like building 3 kits in 1.
