1964 Aurora Superman restoration
I've been restoring an old glue bomb and painted original Superman. The freezer method worked so I was able to separate all but one arm. I then used Super Clean to get the paint off. I took several days to sand the glue off. I've puttied and primed the base and brick wall. Next is Kal-el himself.
As I was working on the kit, I wondered who sculpted the kit. I looked through my 2 editions of Tom Graham's Aurora Model Kit books. Unless I missed it, my wife does say I'm blind, I didn't find out. A google search wasn't working no matter what search engine I entered. Does anyone here know?

Good job rescuing that old build! You're a braver man (and more patient) than I!
Looking forward to seeing it built up!

Yeah, there were a few moments where I thought what the heck. Carry On and Build an Old Kit they say.

Good job on getting it apart and cleaning up the parts.
No idea who sculpted it.

A beautifully sculpted kit - especially compared to the rushed Batman sculpt.
I have a couple of this kit in the blue plastic shown here. I have one moulded in white plastic and I've seen one moulded in a deep forest green.
Do we have a fourth colour anyone?

Never seen a deep green. I wonder if it was a test shot? The white one was probably the Revell issue. There was a darker blue from Comic Scenes and Monogram. I saw a test shot once in a Luminators orange or pinkish color?

Nope. The white plastic one that I have is a genuine original issue Aurora.

Fascinating. I liked hearing about all the various mold plastic.
Too bad we don’t know who sculpted the kit. They deserve recognition.

I did the exact same thing a few years back. It's really a great kit and whoever the sculptor was did a nice job. Looking forward to the finished photos.

Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
I returned to kit building after 2000 after I discovered garage kits as well when PL, MPC/Monogram/Revell reissued some of the Aurora kits. I built two of the Revell releases using aftermarket heads from Diceman Creations. I think George is pretty good while Chris was good for the time. I made custom decals to represent each actor's different S, lengthened the opening around George's neck and lengthened the cape, made custom name tags as well as painting the costumes and bases different. I discovered I still have an extra George head. Hmmmmm.

Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
I believe I've seen one within the last 10-20 yers and with George's face and I'm assuming accurate costume.

Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
I have seen it, but as much as I loved George Reeve's Superman, (I don't think anyone ever really captured the likeness) I would still like to see an accurate Aurora Box Art kit. There is something about that Superman depiction that I find "fascinating".

Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
Colour variations are not unknown among Aurora kits. As an example, The Frog comes in deep green and light tan. The European version is a funky lime green.
Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
An Aurora sculptor was Jack Lemmon. He sculpted the Frankenstein kit and a few others. Superman could have been one of them. Another was a fellow named Meyers.

Re: 1964 Aurora Superman restoration
Bill Lemon and Ray Meyers were the sculptors behind the original 13, dinosaurs, and many other Aurora figure kits. The superheroes seemed to be a mish mash of unnamed sculptors. I believe they are talking about a box art kit. There's just something about that Superman depiction that grabs you.
Eat the slow. The fast are a waste of time.

Never seen this one before - very nice sculpt for the time and great paint-up.
