The Holdovers

#1 Post by derekc62 »

I watched this on Prime the other day and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys subtle, dry wit, sarcastic humor, excellent story telling and good acting.

In a nut-shell, Paul Giamatti plays a teacher at an all-boys private boarding school in the North East who is despised by students and staff alike. He naturally draws the short straw and has to spend the holidays at the school with a handful of students who have no where else to go.

What follows is a tremendous story of friendship, loyalty, heartbreak and growth.

From the opening moments the sharp-eyed will spot the clues that the film's set in 1970/71.

The three main characters are all excellent.. especially the main student (for reasons you'll have to look up yourself :) ).

I agree. Really is worth a watch. Great cast; doesn't attempt to tie the various story threads into a neat conclusion. That said the end is satisfying.

Odd.
On my end I can just watch it without buying or renting.
