Where to eat?

#1 Post by Misellus »

I started this list so I'd have quick directions to a few steakhouses, since that's where I plan to go Saturday evening.

While looking on Google Maps I noticed other useful shops nearby so started including them in the list in case they were needed.

As the list got bigger I decided to post it here to make something useful for the group. I tried to make the lists in order of appearance, but not everything showed up on the first pass so when I found something new I had to figure out where it went. Not always successful. In other words, I do not guarentee anything. Some of these might be closed and the order might be slightly off.

Addresses are to let you GPS to a specific shop that I consider the starting point for an area if more than one shop is around it. Directions are not turn by turn but by major road.

The show hotel is on Phillips. East is towards the on/off ramp, go past this to Preston. West takes you to Crittenden, north from there is University of Louisville, and Churchill Downs area

Expected most asked questions...Where's the closest _______?

McDonalds: Preston Hwy north (3-5 min)
Grocery Store: Krogers on Central/2nd St, near Starbucks (<10 min), or south on Dixie
Starbucks: Central/2nd St (<10 min) or way south on Preston
Alcohol: Beverage Warehouse near Central/2nd St Krogers (<10 min)
WalMart: near Jefferson Mall (15 min), or way south on Dixie, or way south on Preston.

There might be something closer that I didn't find, or I decided a place easier to get to was better than slightly closer.

Hope it helps

North on Crittenden past the Kentucky Kingdom is a Cracker Barrel, if you like their food.

We went there a few years ago. First time I'd ever been.
It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great either.
I got the meatloaf dinner, and it was all just kind of bland.

Not really. Many used to go across the street to the bowling alley, but I hear that will not be an option this year.
With the remodel, not sure what the hotel food will be like this year.
There is still the option to order delivery, or if you have some friends going to dinner, you can also tag along.

I second that choice. Asked a local for a good bbq place and was given that name. Marks feed store over on Bardstown is always required

If you want, come along with me to the Longhorn Steakhouse. I will be going to a local gaming shop afterwards but don't expect it to take more than 15-30 minutes. If you don't want steak, check the list for what's around on Hurstborne you'd rather go to. I'll drop you off and pick you up.

Invitation is open to anyone. I can carry 2 more in the van if anyone needs a ride (3, maybe 4 more if you're young and hate your knees)

You can also ask the shuttle driver out front of the Crowne Plaza. They will usually take you anywhere for a few bucks. I have seen them take a pair to McDonalds for a late night snack that they regretted and did not remember the next morning.

And now I drive a minivan...I like having space to carry things and I hate pickup trucks

I still have the bike, but never ride it. It's actually in a storage unit in KY. Once I lost interest in riding I tried selling it but no interest. Maybe in a few years I'll start again. My hobbies always go in cycles (pun not intended, but let's roll with it)(that one was intended)
