I've always loved this kit, finally got around to building it. One thing I love about the kit and the movie is the bright, shiny, brand new 1958 Imperial convertible. But, I spent as much time working on the Imperial as I did the rest of the kit. The mold lines on the car were really bad, and I also added quite a few touches to make the car more accurate. The windshield, tires and wheels were awful, so I vacu-formed a new windshield and pirated wheels/tires off a cheap die cast car. The casting on the rest of the kit was excellent. The kit is still available from The Alchemy Works (https://www.thealchemyworks.com/product ... r-version/). They also have another 50' Woman kit that looks very tempting.

Note sure what the scale is, but it's 10" tall. all resin and sculpted by Chris Lynch. The Forbidden Planet reference is really a cool touch. I really wanted to light up the bulbs under the marquee, but figured that would be way too much work.

Great kit and a great build-up. I did this one awhile back, and I just replaced the car with a diecast - I'm not as dedicated as you are!

When I was building the kit, I watched some of the film for the first time. It's as bad as they get...

Actually, I just took a better look at your car. How on earth did you make it look so good? (I know, you explained it already - but still....)

Ha, good question. The mismatched mold lines were on the belt line, which meant sanding all the chrome strips running down the sides and adding putty. I replaced the chrome strips with styrene strips (which I learned break instantly if they are bent while trying to super glue them). I ground out the tires and replaced them with those I took from a cheap die cast car. That donor car also supplied the steering wheel (I'm pretty sure my dog ate the one from the kit). I made the convertible top cover using putty and vacu-formed a new windshield. Lots of time was spent sanding, especially the large panels and bumpers. One of the notable design features on the 58 Imperials (I own a 60 which is why I focused on the car so much) is the gunsight tail lights, so I added the tiny half circles around each tail light and added the small chrome strips under the half circles. Had to rebuild the tail light lenses as well. The paint is rattle can Testor's and all the chrome is from using chrome pens. They create great chrome and are easy to use (and no clean-up!). There were many times I gave serious thought to going the route you did!
