King Kong vs Godzilla Atami Castle scene (OK, Nagoya Castle) ...

#1 Post by bucketfoot-al »

Jon Legrand's photos of his unbuilt old Wave resin kit of this iconic scene has got me lathering to try my hand at it, using much cheaper and less rare materials ...

First off, there is no Atami Castle model - but there IS a suitable Nagoya Castle model that I used for a "behind the scenes" view of this scene. (The Nagoya Castle was destroyed by Godzilla in "Godzilla Vs The Thing").

So - what pieces to use? Well, thanks to a FB post last week I found an incredible Japanese custom Kong and "G replacement heads" guy with a printing model operation.

So - what Kingoji to use? Well - I'm gonna try the 16.5cm NECA articulated Big G - which I intend to pose, then glue, putty and repaint.

The King Kong? None other than the articulated "Thunder Ape" created by that guy in Japan - 13.5cm tall. Which I will also glue, extend a little, putty and paint.

The same Doyusha Nagoya Castle kit I used the last time I did this diorama.

The "outlier"? A GRAIL Shinzen Kingoji of 18cm I just won on yahoo.jp - for only $202(!) He might "stand in" if the NECA doesn't work.

The below collage shows NECA posed with the "Thunder Ape", my prior "Tsuburaya Tribute behind-the-scenes" dio I did in 2009, the Shinzen Kingoji, and the scene I am aiming to re-create.

Stay tuned!!!

Progress is being made!!

I have the castle model and I have started customizing the Big G (see the cuts/putty I made in the end of the tail), and I am 'playing' with the pose ...

Kong is on his way from Japan (hopefully not by raft :mrgreen2: ) and I should have him soon ...

Now, I ran something by my wife this afternoon, demonstrated the concept, and she gave me an enthusiastic :thumb2: - even made a very useful suggestion.

Ready to hear it? Well - YOU CAN'T!!! :rolf:

You see, this idea we fleshed out for this kit is so revolutionary, so "mold-breaking" (see what I did THERE? ) that I have decided NOT to disclose it to the CH til its DONE!

Now, lest y'all think I am just being cute - trust me - no one, I mean NO ONE has done a KKG 1962 diorama like what we have planned. (Yeah, I know its a big promise - and when its revealed, I expect you to hold me to it). :mrgreen2:

I WILL continue posting photos of my progress on the diorama segments for you, I just will NOT share the final idea until it is accomplished.

It WILL be worth your wait. :thud
