MARMIT A&B GIGER ALIEN STATUE REPAINTS

#1 Post by Helldresser »

Hey Guys-

OK..I feel kind of like a third wheel just surfing these pages and not participating (but then that might be a good thing considering all the uber talent happening here, makes me wanna stay lurking !).

So I went on an unexpected hiatus from models but this was one of the last projects I'd worked on, a repaint of the MARMIT ALIEN STATUES (Attack/A & Stoop/B poses). I had to "borrow" *ahem*ahem* Sabres' Marmit Stoop photo to show an example of the factory job. Once back from my vacation, I definitely want to get the gears going again since between The Hive and The Clubhouse, I'm feeling that painting/building urge hit me again, so here's my first photo op. Hopefully, I can get that new Jason-Hydra kit done then as well as put up a couple more I'm doing for others.

So be gentle....it's my first time *choke* lol;-)

DAMN!!!!!

Those repaints look unbelievable, man! How did you pull off that interference blue or camera gel effect I so subtly see in there.

Again, awesome work! 8)

HIVE PEEPS: LOL! Thanx for the "extras", guys:-) Someone's gonna charge me for their DSL service.....hehe

NEW PEEPS: Hey thanx Dudes! I'm always on the lookout for new techniques so feel free to post/PM if there's stuff that can be improved on....

CREATURE CORE7: Funny you mention Interference....cuz that IS Interference blue and a couple hits of others in that line. And speaking of ideas.....I got THAT from RICKDTM's how-to he'd posted on an Alien repaint awhile ago (I never would touch them before I saw his work with them, then they made sense for use on a model to me).

I only did for these somewhat different, a layer of drybrushed Interference in spots, then layered the mottled washes/patterns over, random gloss hits, then hits of Interference and so on, then random fine point tracers with Interference & gloss on selected patterns, then texturizing the gloss/matte over it all to finish.....there's several layers there and all tedious to do....and I'm embarrASSed at some of the misses I see with some of these pics...lol. Blah blah blah...I'm rambling. So yea....your eyes serve yee well!

Thank you again for your kind comments everyone.

And if I may be so bold as to point out...

Everything (correct me if I'm wrong RB) was done BY HAND, WITH BRUSHES!!

You and Vin are my heroes with your brush skills.

NEVER apologize for using brushes my friend.

While I understand the skill needed to wield an airbrush and those that use them are artists as well, there's something to be said about just using a brush.

The things you guys can do with just brushes amazes me.
