Hi
I have a client who is working on an animation pitch. He may need the main character sculpted so it can be articulated like an action figure.Think along the lines of a "ben 10" type character.
I have done a sculpt for him but I don't have the equipment to do an articulated figure.I'm thinking resin and vaccums etc, right?
Anyway he's looking for 10-20 initially and possibly a batch of 100 for christmas depending on price.Any quotes or pointers to anyone who can help would be much apprieciated.Hope this doesn't break any forum rules-sorry if it does!
Just PM me, Thanks Sarah

wow well done:)
if you start getting out side help i guess that would cut into profits and increase the main price all together.
Personaly i would go out and either buy an action figure of the same size and see if u can take it apart and i would then cast up either the joints or the whole thing.
or i would make the whole thing up in "fuse wax" (willow products)
As for moulds either i would use a company local to me call "Antiquark" or i would use silicone putty and fibre glass/body filler shell or even solid rubber
Other ways i guess is also the good old ball joint doll way, (look at hanano001 on you tube)
hope this helps

thanks Steve-Yeah I was willing to let the sculptor just take the job, thanks for the info.I have researched all the posibilities its just being confident to do it myself.I have access to a vacuum and I know where to get resin etc it's just doing it for the first time of a good standard.
The action figure idea is a good idea.

yeah i know what your saying there about the perfection and getting it rite.
i would just go for it, personly myself i plan it out in my head and on paper what i need like referance, matrials, etc and just have a go at doing one just to see what problems u may face and how long roughly 1 will take.
This is a big oppitunity sarah and as i too live in the U.K., these type of breaks very rarely happen.
If they have allready seen your work then they have got some idea of quality they will get.
Go for it,or you will wonder if you could have really pulled it off.
I too am working on a project and it is massive but i just have to beleave or i have failed before i even started.

Congrats Sarah, glad to see things are going well. Is it the Clay figure you're doing?
Not really had much experience with toy style or plastic ball and socket joints but I can probably point you in the right direction if you need 'stop motion' type joints. They're pretty expensive though.
It's probably a good idea to cannibalise a similar toy and cast from that. That's probably what I'd do. If you've sculpted in a material you can alter you can always chop up a toy and your sculpt at the articulation points and fix them into your sculpt and cast those parts. If you can, use a harder sculpting material as you'll find it easier to make a multi part mould, it'll be less likely to be damaged when laying it up for the parting lines etc than if you sculpt in Chavant for example.
