WIP - Alaneye T2 bust

#1 Post by Joa »

Therapy for my soul! =D

I'll be tinkering with this project as a way to fill the "spare time" while waiting for paint and putty to dry on my commissions... =)

As some of you may know I collect Terminator stuff, and this is one of my more recent acquisitions.

It's an outstanding bust by Alaneye here at the CH.

First I sanded and polished all the bared machine parts:

I decided to add a doll's eye + LED lighting to it, so...

You're off to a great start on this piece! Cool idea, using the doll eye.

Wow, brave to cut into the face, I think I would have been tempted to take the back of the head off to access the back of the eye, at least hair is much more forgiving when patching it back up... but you must be confidient in what you are doing. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

Hehe .. well, I made the cut along the more pronounced wrinkles, so it'll be a breeze to putty in.
Pun13 wrote:Clean cut on the eye, how was this done?
I used my Proxxon Dremel with a 1mm bit, making holes along a penciled outline, then I pressed gently along it till the piece came loose...

Does look good with the doll's eye in. What size it it? 8mm? Did you get it online? I have to say though, Joa, if you putty that section back in without any evidence it was ever taken out, I will be very impressed ;)

I tend to approach these things in the Nike manner... Just do it!
'pretty much always works in the end...

Doesn't it?! =)
Scale wise the 8mm would've been better, but the sclera is way to small and its' radius didn't match the size of the eye ball.
I use a 10mm eye and I widened the eye slightly in order for the iris not to look Too big.
I buy these eyes directly from the Volks store. Excellent service and okay prices despite the strong yen.
Well, the initial putty layer ended up pretty neato, I think...

Doll lashes added and the eye piece puttied in with Tamiya Quick type (similar to Aves):

Will follow up with liquid putty (Mr. surfacer) and primer + steel wool...

Oh, and the lashes will after painting be re-posed in order not to obscure the eye. ^^

That is very impressive, I am in awe.
Also impressive is your Terminator collection, really nice. From plush toys to porn, I'd say you have all the bases covered.

Impressed I am! I really didn't believe you would be able to putty that cut without leaving any trace at all. Great work. Looking forward to your painting style now :)

Really cool work Joachim! I can only concur, really risky job putting the seam line across the face, but you pulled it off perfectly. Can't wait to see it in person.
...I trust you won't miss IPMS again next spring? :P

I'd love to go to Chiller, but I am afraid it's not what it used to be... I will focus on getting to WF this spring instead. With some wishful thinking I will gather up enough money for the trip.
