Re: The Outsider

Don't know if you saw the epilogue after the credits but the story most definitely continues ... if HBO gives it the green light.

Re: The Irishman

Watched it last night. Liked it, didn't love it. De Niro, Pesci, Pacino are all outstanding but I do find it interesting that De Niro and Pacino are portraying an Irishman and a German/Irish respectively while Keitel (Polish) is playing an Italian. (wouldn't be the first time - Keitel was an Italian...

HBO's "The Watchmen"

Watching the trailers for this series did anything but excite me, but I recorded the first episode and I have to say it really grabbed me. The storyline is unique and topical but the graphic novel's DNA is absolutely there as well - in subtle and surprising ways. Well directed, fast paced , and cont...

Re: Joker

Went to see it with my brother yesterday and it was pretty much as I expected. Phoenix is excellent, and I loved the gritty cinematography, but the story itself is a complete mash-up of "Taxi Driver" and "The King of Comedy" with a nod to "Psycho", "Death Wish"...

Joker

Still on the fence about going to see this. Got a feeling I like the film's influences a lot more than I'll like the movie itself.

Ad Astra

Saw it Saturday and walked away with mixed impressions. A little bit "2001", a little bit "Heart of Darkness". Great SPX of course, and several good, tense, action sequences. Pitt and Jones are fine, but some of the situations are implausible (how Pitt gets from point A to B to C...

Re: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

A little background on the Bruce Lee fight scene (spoilers!) One of the most memorable scenes in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” finds Cliff squaring off with the legendary Bruce Lee (Mike Moh) on the set of the short-lived TV series “The Green Hornet,” which in this universe also featured Rick. The...

Re: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

Went back for a second viewing and several things jumped out at me that I didn't catch the first time - the scene with Bruce Lee is actually a flashback - or possibly even a fantasy - so Bruce Lee as Kato makes sense. Also, it totally went past me the first time that the actor playing James Stacy - ...

Re: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

Just read an opinion piece which, while not giving away any big plot lines or the ending, calls this "the most conservative film of 2019" for its supposed anti-1960's counter-culture message ... still not gonna see it (not a fan of Tarantino) ... Yeesh! Can you provide a link? I mean, The...

Re: Rutger Hauer passes at 75

When word started circulating that Burton was directing a big budget Batman movie back in '88, and before the part had been cast, I remember thinking Hauer would have been perfect in the title role.

Re: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

If anyone has actually seen the movie, they know that there are lots of liberties taken with history...I was a late teenager when Bruce was still alive and was a fan of his movies prior to his untimely death, that being said, I had no problem with that particular scene in the movie...this movie was...

Re: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

Bruce Lee's daughter just stated she was very unhappy with how Bruce is portrayed in the film. Yep, https://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/ny-bruce-lee-daughter-blasts-quentin-tarantino-for-portrayal-20190730-csmvgsgp6vhixd4tpflansqvee-story.html Yep. "She said it “was really uncomfo...

Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

Enjoyed this immensely. Probably helps that I grew up in the Sixties and get all the pop culture references. Tarantino plays with timelines a bit - Bruce Lee dressed as Kato wouldn't have happened in '69, but the actor playing the part absolutely nails Lee's vocal cadence and physical presence. And ...
