Re: The Preacher - Season One
I've been in since the beginning. Big fan of the comics as well. Yep, it's varied from the comics pretty far. Which is fine. If I knew what to expect, why would I watch the show?

Re: Why is Wonderfest Held Where It Is Every Year?
If anything were to change about WF, I'd like 1 more day. There's just so much to do in 48 (or more if you do any of the pre-show classes!) hours and I'm exhausted for multiple days afterward. But there's an awful lot that'd have to happen to add that day.

Re: Compressors - tank or tankless??
I've got an Iwata Power Jet Pro, it's tankless, but has a lot of tubing to try and absorb the air pulses. Hasn't given me a lick of trouble in the 15 years I've had it. I asked Tom Grossman if there's any maintenance I should perform, and he basically said just pat it and tell it "good compress...

Re: Why is Wonderfest Held Where It Is Every Year?
I kind of like it in Louisville, it's a little tougher to fly into, and that makes it a smaller show. I think that kind of reflects on the quality--the people there had to work a bit to get there, and it shows in the quality of both the people and the entries it attracts. It has always felt like a g...

Re: Comic style paint job advice.
I haven't done this either but looking at the image I see there are no smooth transitions between mid tones, highlights and low lights. If I was doing it, I think I would paint the mid tone and then do the highlights without trying to smooth one color in the other. Then do the same thing for the sh...

Comic style paint job advice.
So I'm going to try and paint a mech in a comic book style scheme. You know, the one that makes a 3D model look 2D (that Superman that was painted as the box art--Fisher's maybe? That sort of thing). Something like this: http://kotaku.com/i-cant-believe-this-isnt-a-manga-drawing-1702763727 . Anyway,...

Re: Recommend a Low Smell Primer
It occurs to me that there may be some cost benefit to using an airbrushable primer as opposed to something out of a rattle can. You're not paying for the propellant and packaging. I've always used rattle cans, but just decided to order a bottle of Vallejo to give it a try. I'm hoping for finer ato...

Re: Recommend a Low Smell Primer
Any aerosol primer is going to smell. Look at some of the airbrushable primers, like from Vallejo, Mission Models, Garage Kits, etc. You'll still want to use a spray booth and mask if possible, but they are less noxious.

Re: Just a question about the awards....
You can thank Tom Grossman. He suggested it as a motto for one of the model daze shows the CoMMiES participated in, and I've taken it as a personal one. It really helps my enjoyment of the hobby to remember it's a hobby.tay666 wrote:I really like that motto.

Re: Just a question about the awards....
Actually, you'd be might be surprised at how many people don't realize that. You're probably right. It's easy to lose sight of what needs to be done to get a gold model when you are looking at your own work day in day out--you tend to not see the fnords. I've judged model contests several times, so...
