Re: Takeya's Devilman (image heavy)

Wow, thanx everyone! It's such a great kit to paint, but you're fairly exhausted when you're done! All that detailing strain your eyes and drain your brain! :D

Re: This movie delivers

Late on the topic, but there's some Garage Kit trivia in this as well... Andreas Bennwik, who did the Bennwik Frankenstein some ten years ago did the poster work in true Strusan style. http://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=31659&p=381238 And the company I work for did all the ...

Takeya's Devilman (image heavy)

Hi guys, Sorry for not posting much these days. I finally got around painting my Devilman this spring after sitting on the shelf for about 15 years(!) I have been extremely intimidated by this kit, not knowing which way to go. I started painting it back in the nineties trying to achieve a translucen...

Re: Transparent Paint

The answer is Golden's Transparent Extender: http://www.artsupply.com/assets/images/golden0003537.jpg I use it for all acrylic paints. Art acrylics, FW, Golden (obviously), Freestyle, Vallejo... Works for all. Paint it, use your airbrush. Really good product. Gives little sheen which is easily dulle...

Re: Nocturna -'Kinski/Adjani' - Nosferatu

Cool to see someone tackle this old kit! And nice work!
For you who asked: Yes, the kit is still available from Nocturna (http://www.nocturnaproductions.com/offers/kinski.htm) as far as I know.
I'll follow this thread through for sure. Keep up the good work.

Re: Eliminating shine when painting

Corn starch... Interesting. Have to try that. My philosophy has always been to try to achieve as flat a surface as possible using the paint. The Tamaiya paints are very good at creating a very flat surface if you thin it down properly and avoid getting a too thick layer. On resin I also use slightly...

Re: New Dino-Bird with 4 (!) Wings

Looks very much like a Microraptor. It also had four wings and flight feathers, built like a proper dromaeosaurid. We're currently doing a Microraptor for a documentary, so I am deep into the science of it at the moment... :P

That's just brilliant! A lot of stuff from the nail polish biz is applicable on our end of the biz.
I just recently discovered that UV-resins for building and varnishing nail art are perfect for eye lenses!

Re: Alclad 2 cleaner

If I'm not totally out there I seem to remember cleaning my airbrush with Alcohol... I was pleasantly surprised that it was alco-based since I took for granted that it was way more toxic solvents involved. Either way, easiest way of knowing, as a general rule, is to pour a dab of the paint you want ...

Looks fantastic! And I do think I have to get me one. I just LOVE Oviraptors, and this one is beautiful! 1/4 is a great scale, fits my Deinonychus, my Velociraptor and my own (unfinished) Ovi as well! Another feather project on the horizon...

Re: Brown spots on vinyl kit?

Hard to really know just from your description without seeing it for real, but I remember a lot of cheaper vinyl kits often came with burnt edges. And sometimes there were spots of brown in some parts. I always figured that was old burnt vinyl that might have fallen back into the molds when they wer...

Re: John Dies and This Book is Full of Spiders

I also read the book some time ago and was looking forward to the film. I finally saw it a few weeks ago and it was pretty good. An impossible film to do on a tight budget, but I'd have to say they did a pretty good job. But the book was such a trip!

Re: misting grey over black

If you want tips on how to get a great highlighted black shading, rather than what paints to use, I have a small tip. I usually paint black areas completely black, either flat or wih a slight sheen. Then I spray, from above, a completely flat layer of Black mixed with a few drops of Flesh. This give...

Wow! Very nice indeed. Cool to see a bit different color ideas going on there. Yeah, that chess board is really a nightmare. I've painted quite a few in my days. I preferred doing dark squares on bright base, using oils so that I could clean away mistakes and sharpen up the lines. I often painted th...

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season Two - Starts Sunday on HBO

Yeah, I read that two right after posting here. But I agree they have to combine book 4 and 5 for continuity. But these have a lot of extra weight that I'd imagine they could trim off a bit to be able to fit in one season... Speculations. 8)

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season Two - Starts Sunday on HBO

Tor, That is unfortunately the inevitable problem with transferring these into a TV series. Not only do they have to force +800 pages into a 9 hours (not 12) format, they have a total budget much less than an ordinary Hollywood action film for a whole season. So first off all those massive scenes fr...
