Re: The Valkyrie
Amazing work, Jim! I know someone already brought attention to the snow on the base, but it stands out to me as especially lifelike and realistic. And knowing all the woodgrain on the shield is painted is pretty astounding, lol to put it lightly... Really wonderful job on this piece!

Narin's Death Warrior
Hey everyone! Been a minute since I posted anything, but I moved last year and finally got my dream studio set up and can photograph my work again, so figured I'd share with everyone, lol This is the latest one, fresh off the workbench! I know we've seen a few of them before, with Joe's dozen+ aweso...

Awesome to check back in after so long, lol
I almost grabbed one of those WASP kits, but thought it was a little too pricey... seeing yours makes me regret it, lol Nice work so far!

Re: Tattoo
You're talking about this one, right? I have the artist added on Facebook, and on one of the photos he shared I saw he answered questions about the technique he used: he used thinned down enamels to paint on the lines first, then colored the tattoo with oils and enamels. I've never tried this techni...

Re: Need Help With Real Flesh
I swear by the David Fisher method: Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, and Titanium White. The link to Jerry Buchanan's page covers it pretty well. The important thing is to make the varying shades of color more subtle than too stark in contrast. The Dracula I painted was done using that technique, with wash...

Re: Narin Series 05 Hellbreed (Dial-up Warning! Pic Heavy!)
Wow, thank you guys! I'm very humbled to get such positive feedback from such talented folks. Means a lot! The color choice just felt... natural, lol I just wanted to avoid too much yellow or brown since I painted the hybrid first. Thank you guys all the same, lol Probably going to tackle The Mermai...

Thanks so much, guys!
It's usually a labor of love on any given piece, but this one was just especially frustrating. Makes it all the more rewarding now.
I'm glad you guys liked it and thanks so much for the kind words!

Narin Series 05 Hellbreed (Dial-up Warning! Pic Heavy!)
Wow. Talk about "late to the party," lol This is my 7th or 8th buildup, and honestly... I bit off way more than I could feasibly chew. Released in 2011, I've been steadily working on this piece for five... long... years. I painted the predator at least 4 times. The hybrid/predalien at leas...

I've had similar problems with mine... They all seem to gunk up the airbrushes I use (Renegade and Star 20/20) so I'll give them another shot after a good, thorough shake up.

Re: Need help IDing some netting used for masking/patterns?
Yeah, like I said in the original post, that's what I thought it was, too, but it just doesn't work for what I'm trying to do. It's too light and just gets blown all over when I spray over it. Or maybe the stuff I got off Amazon is just wicked cheap, I dunno. When I used it, it didn't do what I was ...

Re: WIPs
I was actually a little unhappy with the castings on the VG: they're just not up to snuff with Narin's usual brilliance as far as casting quality. There's lots of seams, bubbles and pinholes, and it looks like he had to sand off some bad seams at the expense of some of his usual detail... I'll have...

Also, did not notice the "very large scale" bit, but I still think the technique would work on a larger scale.

Re: Need help identifying some netting used for masking?
No, it is, I'll have to edit the topic title.
When you spray through it, you get a really fine patterning that looks great for a ton of different effects.
I've tried to find mesh netting and cloth that's similar but just haven't had any luck.

Wow. That catalyzed clear coat is unreal... Same with your use of alclad. I've got a long, LONG way to go... lol
I've just started using enamels as basecoats for metalics, namely some decanted Testors Black, and WOW! It definitely makes a difference. Glad to see I'm on the right path here, lol

Need help IDing some netting used for masking/patterns?
Hey, guys. There's a pretty talented artist on Facebook whose work I follow and after seeing some of the results she achieved, I asked what she used to mask off the area, and she replied with this picture. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a language barrier, and it's kind of hit or miss on whether we...

Re: How to create "Drool"?
Little out of left field here, but I've NEVER had good experience with epoxy or the clear rod/sprue technique, so I looked for alternatives for my Hellbreed kit I'm finished up, and I'm blown away by the results. I went to Wal-Mart and got the thinnest fishing line I could find, and when it came tim...

Man... That finished Guyver kit looks so awesome. I would've loved to see more WIP shots for that. Could use the inspiration for my own Vile Guyver. I was actually a little unhappy with the castings on the VG: they're just not up to snuff with Narin's usual brilliance as far as casting quality. Ther...

Re: Crazy for X-O Facto's Psycho
Unbelievable work... Only other person I've seen achieve a look like that as effectively was the man himself, David Fisher. The wool blanket is just awesome. It's so attention grabbing. The gray scale also gives this a wicked creepy effect... Nice woik!
