This should be interesting for those in this forum.

They call it a miniature, but the Forgeworld T'au Manta is 25" long and has a wingspan of 34 inches.
So I think that should be enough space ship to fit here rather than the miniature forum :)

Here is the start of Squidmar's build of this beast.

Well, I certainly wouldn't call it a mini, but I get what he's saying. In regular garage kit world that would be called studio scale. ;)
What I really laughed at was all the comments of these mini kids freaking out about warped parts. Hehe

Yeah. That tickled me a bit too.
Though, for what they charge for the kit, QC could have been better. But some warpage is inevitable.
And I am sure some happened in transit, with that much stuff packed in the boxes.

But I don't remember him noting any bubbles or pitting or blisters or leaching resin.
So I would call that a win.

What always gets me with the mini guys, is how fast they try and rush through the build.
I am betting if he would have taken more time to straighten things out and line things up, he wouldn't have had to trim nearly as much.

Agreed. IMHO they just aren't used to actually building a figure or model. Or if they did it was the "arm with the sword" or "the arm with no sword". Once the Co's went over to plastic and resin, more building has to be done. But they still want to glue the arms on and get right to painting.
I go back to the old Ral Partha days when only the big dragons had more than one part... ;)

This is just one of the dioramas inside the base. No real work on the hardware. But still, very interesting.

That's crazy money for something that requires that much trimming and fiddling with just to assemble it. I guess the mini folks are not as spoiled as the normal SiFi market. Perhaps the market has different expectations. This is a massive item for the Minis market so there's that to consider. Something that size from Randy Cooper would run about half that cost and require a lot less cutting. I have to wonder if part of the warpage issues is from the sheer thickness of the castings and lack of mold building experience?

I think a big part of it was just inexperience working with large kits, and having that much to assemble.
A lot of that trimming looks unnecessary if they would have taken the time to straighten the parts and dry fit them before jumping to the assembly.
But yeah, it really wasn't packed very well. All those parts crammed in a big box, and shipped a considerable distance is going to end up with warping. The castings looked good as far as flash, voids, bubbles, or boogers.
I am sure a big part of the price is that it is an official Warhammer release. So fully licensed and meant to turn a profit for the company.
