DeAgostini/Altaya 1/8th Ford Le Mans GT40
My best mate's kit but his modelling mojo has gone AWOL so he asked me to build it for him.
Also told to use own judgement on improvments, chages etc.
Well who am I to argue
WIP log can be found here: http://www.ianlawrencemodels.com/wipgt40.html
he shorthand version:
Assembled pretty much by the numbers, aftermarket decals, some of my own decals, rebuilt the dashboard, repainted the interior parts where appropriate and appropriate meant pretty much all of it.
Cleared up some factory decal placement mistakes, gave the engine parts a paint and some detail workover. Light weathering to make it look like shes' done her shakedown laps.
Done and done
Full gallery here: http://www.ianlawrencemodels.com/GT40.html
Just over 20" long and weighing in at some 17 & 1/2lbs
Pics!
And of course, the Youtube vid!

Enjoy

Beautiful model! Great job! The improvements were really well worth the time.

Wow!
That was a fun ride reading that whole thing all at once.
You really turn these things into such realistic pieces of art man.

Outstanding work, looks like an actual car.

Re: DeAgostini/Altaya 1/8th Ford Le Mans GT40
I thank you one and all!
It was quite an enjoyable and in a lot of cases, relaxing build since a lot of the work was already done by the producer and that I can live with.
My mate was very happy, so happy in fact, he gave me his 1/8th Delorean time machine to sort out...
I said I would help double checking the electronics for him one day and that day has arrived so gotta make good on that and i'll finish the build for the poor old soul.
Still, another one that will hopefully look pretty on my site and I don't have to find space for and dust afterwards.
Go me!
Thanks again all, its very much appreciated!

There are several things I want to build for the fun of it, and to have the photos to remember it. But have zero desire to hold onto afterwards.

Right there with ya Trev.
Like the design of the GT 40 for example, but not enough to want a model of one so this kinda sorts both those things.
As for other subjects, my personal 'to do' stash is quite limited. About 14 that I really want to build and keep.

Awesomest, Ian…
I’m in the middle of one of the part-work GT40s and using aftermarket parts here and there…I love your subtle post race weathering. One for the study file. Having assembled up to the engine bay; thus far, I’ve also noticed how much you’ve replaced, changed or repainted in the interior and engine bay. Great stuff. Love this!

I thank ye kindly Dale!
She came out looking pretty in the end and like most partworks, nice enough done 'as is' but also a good basis to work from and improve.
