THE CLUBHOUSE

You may have noticed a few things moved around tonight.
I've been thinking about this for a while, and this thread kind of spurred me to start planning seriously for it.

So I combined, or eliminated a few of the extraneous forums at the top of the board.
Moved the swap and sell section up. And added a coming soon forum to it.

That forum is for all upcoming projects. Either ones that might be a long way off, or in the near future. Basically someplace for all the members to learn about new things that are in the pipeline.
That way, the other forums won't be cluttered up with things like that, and it will be easier for producers to know where to post.

You might be thinking "What do you mean 'cluttered up'? Things aren't that busy."
Well, this isn't the end of renovations here.
We are still discussing and kicking around ideas of combining more forums.
We have quite a few forums, with very little activity. So we are trying to find the right balance between making things more active, but still keeping things from being a free-for-all.
I know a lot of members appreciate not having to wade through a lot of things they aren't interested in, to get to what they want to see or read about.

With that in mind, I would like to hear some feedback on a few ideas.
Currently we are thinking about eliminating 4 more forums.
Hero's Emporium
Stomping Grounds
Tar Pit
Kustomizers

If we do, then completed builds would just go in the Model Museum, and WIPs would go in the Workbench.

What I want to know, is anyone who uses those forums either for, or against the idea?
If you have an opinion, lets hear it.
I want to do what will be best for the people that use the place to make the experience better, not worse.

1) Phew - I panicked and thought a bunch of forums were no longer being offered!

2) I like the idea of combining WIPs and the Model Museum. I like looking at build-ups, even if its stuff I'm not interested in working on myself. (For instance, I'll never have an HO train set, but I could look at pictures of them for hours....)

Rather than eliminating them, I suggest combining the Stomping Grounds and the Tar Pit into one forum. You could add to that revised single forum the category for Harryhausen items. I'm never quite sure where to post models from that subject matter.

In the 'Coming Soon' forum, I get this message:

You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum

I'm on board with this. All of these are forums I neglect, so folding these subjects in with other figure kits in general makes sense to me. I'd particularly agree with eliminating Hero's Emporium; comic and monster subjects go hand in hand, I'd say.

Yes they don't get a lot of traffic - Stomping Ground probably most of the bunch and that's due to one poster(Jon). So long as they are combined or showcased in the Museum would work. Some of the builds guys may never see do to not visiting a room would be better exposure for all.

As regards the "eliminating" - Trev was talking about merging existing posts into other forums (Model Museum + Workbench).

As regards the new "Coming Soon" forum, it seems no-one currently has access permissions - just a switch Trev forget to throw when he created this one "net new". He'll sort it soon (he's a smart lad that Trev . . . sometimes ).

That is the exact thinking.
Jon gets lots of comments on his Kong builds he puts in the museum, but only a handful of us comment on his amazing Godzilla builds in the Stomping Grounds.
Putting that stuff in the Museum would lead to more people seeing it.
Same for the super hero stuff, and the dinosaurs.

Still not sure about the Kustomizers forum though.
Thinking about opening that up for all prepaints. Custom, and just out of the box.
Let people show off their favorite prepaints, and discuss them.
There really isn't a good area for that here. I don't even know if that is still a 'thing' or not. I was never on the bandwagon, so I don't know if prepaints are still popular or if members here still collect them.

Hmmmmm . . . one of the other boards I'm on has a sub-forum called "The Sandbox" and a couple of threads on there are "Things I effin' love" and "Thing I effin' hate".

Takes a wee bit of extra moderation (unless folks are well-behaved enough to self-control) but they don't get too bad.

Regardless, could just as easily be threads on the "Monkey bars"? (unless I've misunderstood you).
