Super-talented sculptor and very decent person. I don't remember if he was a Clubhouse member but I do know plenty of us are fans.

This is the image of Gabriel I used in a Resin the Barbarian profile about 15 years ago.

Gabriel and I knew each other for over 20 years. I never thought I would be writing a memorial for Gabriel, rather that he would be doing that for me. And yet, here we are.

Gabriel was so much more than an incredible artist. He was a kind and generous heart as well as a good friend. It came by him naturally to be an inspiration to us all. That is a legacy that will live on in each of us. He would prod me to take the chance – to do something different and challenging. I could hear him say “You could do it, man.” Several of my built models are reflection of the challenges Gabriel would lay before me. He reached out to others as well and encouraged them to pursue their passion. Such is the case with my daughter – she is finishing her degree in Studio Art and Gabe is someone to which she looked up.

He was an integral part of Houston Figure Modelers. We all had great times together consuming large quantities of pizza and beverages of choice as well as share our model building endeavors. Gabe and I would admire each other’s respective collections, and would from to time trade back and forth with each other. It almost seemed seem like a light-hearted game we played. Gabriel once said that within this group I probably had the most models he had sculpted. But I would trade them all today to have Gabe back amongst us.

I remember that Gabriel had several impressive Godzillas in his collection. He had a fondness for that formidable creature. I suspect that every time, I see a Godzilla I will likely think of him. It is bittersweet and ironic that my ringtone for my cell phone is - yes – Godzilla’s roar. Gabe, you will truly be missed. May your legacy be just as memorable as Godzilla’s Roar.

I would encourage folks to post pictures of his sculptures here as a memoriam.

A great lost. Super talent, a real gentleman, He was a clubhouse member by the name Gwin Sculpture Works. I bought this Debbie Harry H.R. Geiger KooKoo album cover bust from him in 2013. Bust picture was from his studio.

I thought that might have been it but couldn't find a profile. Just checked again and found a post from 2009 but the profile's been deleted.

What a shame :( I have several of his kits and they're very well sculpted.

How old was he?

In May 2006, Gabriel was 37. So I guess he was 52. He'd been ill for quite some time, but I don't know what led to his untimely death.

For the record, I don't want to make it seem like he and I were best friends. I was only lightly acquainted with Gabriel. But I am a big fan of his work.

.

Sometimes, names stick in your head without you necessarily being able to remember WHY

Then I did a search  search.php?keywords=GABRIEL+MARQUEZ

Holy crap did this guy have a long & talented history  - AND he was very much appreciated by the community (producers & customers alike).

If you scroll through the search results, you'll find Gabriel was responsible for so many classic pieces.

I could pick several, but I'll go for the one below (painted by Saul, and which sits to the right of me as I type), and (as Pete suggested) will let others share the pieces THEY have.

So much talent, and so young to have left us.

My sincere condolences to all his friends & family.

The Moebius Mummy is Gabriel's work. I think he did a similar base for the Janus deluxe Mummy kit, although Jeff Yagher sculpted the figure.

This is sad news - I have a couple of his kits and remember having a nice chat with him at WF back in the early 2000's.

He did a few kits I have, among them the Metaluna Mutant and Teenage Werewolf bigheads. The latter is particularly well done, sculpting hair like that isn't easy.

I remember him over the years.. I think he had his company at one time?
He was very, very talented ... I do hope his life's work don't end on public auction
like John Tucky's stuff... R.I.P
