Bachmann Birds of the World - Goldfinch

#1 Post by Ken Kwil »

Been building some of these old bird models from the 60’s. These were made by Bachmann for their Birds of the World Series. Bill Lemon did the sculpting for them. This was before he sculpted the monster figures for Aurora. The kits are pretty easy building. This model comes with the paint, painting fluid, and brush. Instructions guide you as to what color goes where. The models have guide lines. I puttied all the lines. I hand painted and airbrushed using Testors enamels. For realism leaves were added to the base. The Goldfinch name I carved from plastic and added to the base. Bachmann also did a series of Dogs of the World and Animals of the world. I’m working on the Robin model next.
There are more photos of this model in the gallery.
Enjoy!

That looks good.
I know there are a ton of these kits out there. I've considered picking up a few over the years, but figured I would never actually get to them.

I had three of these on my patio the other day.
I saw one this morning sitting on my flagpole.

Beautiful birds.
The American Goldfinch!
Cool model.

Bachmann also made the "Americana" series which consisted of: Bowlers; Junior League; and Fisher Boy.

Tremendous detail on all 3 kits. All 3 were clearly inspired by Norman Rockwell. Check them out.
