Dark Shadows kits done!

#1 Post by tay666 »

Finally finished these two kits for a friend of mine.
He handed me the box of kits 3 years ago, and I delivered them to him earlier this week.

They have actually been done for a while. I finished them in the spring, and entered them at WF, where they each earned a merit. I finished up the base to hold both of them shortly after the show. It just took me this long to take the pics, and set up a time both of us were free to be able to take them over to my friend and show him how it works.
I set it up so you can use either the resin replacement heads, or the original heads (which I left glow)
Thanks to Tim Fortuna for the nameplate that helped make the whole base idea work. And gave me a great spot to hold the heads that aren't on the figures.

You can see more pics on this page

Thanks.
Yes, he was amazed by them. He had no idea they could be painted so well.
He's never actually seen any of my stuff in person.
I didn't have the heart to tell him, that compared to a lot in this hobby, my skills aren't much.
(this in no way means I am unhappy with my work, I am just realistic that there are so many other better painters than myself. It's not a competition and I don't compare my work to others. I love looking at all the much better painted kits and take inspiration from them)

Job well done. They look great and the optional heads is an excellent touch.

I agree with you about better painters - I know I can never reach the level of so many amazing artists out there but strive to better myself each time.

I'd like to think I try to do better each time, but realistically I only try to do better about 60% of the time.
35% I either phone in, or just try to streamline things.
The last 5% is where I say 'screw it, close enough'
:D

But I look at it this way. Even if I am not trying to improve, just by sheer repetition I will make progress. So just finishing kits is making progress.

That came out great! Nice work on the base, nameplate and extra heads - it ties together really well.

Your last statement hits the nail on the head for me - just finishing a kit. It's hard sometimes. I have so many that are close and I need to marathon them out over the winter!
