Werewolf By Night - Oct 7th 2022 on D-/+

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

.

In contrast to a classic line from Predator 2 - "It has not been a nice day!"

I had a HUGE statue from PRIME1 turn up earlier in the week (2 massive boxes) and just spent 2hrs checking and assembling the wee beastie with my Son . . . PERFECT condition (one is happy :cloud9: ).

Then THIS drops - confirming it's the "Jack Russell" incarnation, and my fave tower of swamp muck is in there too Image

My fave comics as I was growing up were monster/creature based - and Mike Ploog was the master of them all (Werewolf By Night, Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, Planet of the Apes . . . the list goes on).

I'm as happy as a pig in mud today - roll-on Oct 7th !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Image Image Image
The trailer is done in an interesting style, and having Harriet Sansom Harris ("Bebe" from "Frasier") in it shouldn't hurt it at-all

It's only a 1-hour "special" rather than a series - but it's a start !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hot: :jam: Image

That looks pretty good.

I never read the comic (horror was the only thing I liked from DC so I stuck with House of Mystery)
But I love the approach they are taking with this.
I'll have to find a way to watch this.

A big pass.. I have the comic books this nothing like original comic book.
This leaning toward the first blade with council and underworld..
yawn... too many actors involved.. This could been awesome.
taken from directly from comic book.
The main character Jack, was loner seeking answers..
finding trouble when he was seeking a cure.
Go read the comic book series see fun it was.
This is garbage..

This is why Scuzz is to be admired - he got all that from only 67 seconds of stylised trailer detail :)

Thats right.. I watched too many.. so it's easy to see plot even a trailer..
It's not D+ for nothing.. failure with disney sparkle..

Being an old fan of WBN I would give it an honest gander! Besides, if there were no WBN there would be no Tigra the Were-woman! And Dr. Ted Sallis will be a cool addition! 8) Problem is I no longer have mouse +. :?

I also loved the work of Mike Ploog, Gene Colan and all the artists of the old marvel monsters!

Well, as with everything , just because someone you "follow" says something, it doesn't mean you agree with everything they say . . . but these fellas are generally quite reasonable when it comes to their opinions . . .

Nothing that would suggest it comes even close to the original "Jack Russell" story, but still sounds promising.

6 days to go :D

K - so having stayed up to watch as soon as it was available, this is a bit of a mixed bag.

IMO, Man-Thing totally steals the show, along with Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone (although the large Scotsman was pretty cool character too).

The story was a bit slow in places (right pace for a 1hr 30 movie, wrong pace for something only 50mins long), but it was a reasonable way of introducing what could be the start of a "Legion of Monsters" type team going forward (cough - Ghost Rider - cough).

Well worth the watch, but I'll admit my 2 fave moments were when Jack said his friends name was "Ted" (chills!) and the Mike Ploog style Werewolf pic in the end credits.

Did NOT like the facial makeup for our title character, and wasn't fond of his non-American accent, but I DID (surprisingly) like that Man-Thing was not the mindless beast as he's portrayed in the comics, and loved the relationship between him and Jack. The final conversational scene was cool & funny.

Well worth a watch, but if you're expecting more than cursory similarities to the original comics - you'll be disappointed. Having said that, those stories were shocking & interesting when they were first introduced . . . 51 years ago for Man-Thing (1971), and 50 for Werewolf-by-Night (and Ghost Rider) . . . but they would have to be beefed up a bit to keep peoples attention these days, and I don't think the budget was anywhere near big enough to do those stories justice.

Let's hope this is a "test" that will serve as a springboard for the main characters going forward. Time will tell.

Have to say I ... hated is too strong... immensely disappointed. I can't recall
any story details from the days when I first read this comic, but I do remember the great
Mike Ploog artwork and many take place in city scapes, so was expecting ol'
furry to be running around the streets of NY or something.

That and never a fan of Man-Thing/Swamp Thing (could never keep these 2 straight!) :)
so was almost ready to see Howard the Duck pop up somewhere in this hour!

Told my sons to skip it and watch something else.

I hear ya.

I'd def have preferred everything to have looked more like the Ploog versions (the man is a genius of design) . . . the Werewolf, Man-Thing, and (of course) Jack looking more like a young Kurt Russell instead of the "fade into the background" actor we got . . . but I'm still glad they made this.

And to remind us of better stories/designs . . . issues #5, #8 and #14 were always my fave covers . . . and what red-blooded male could resist Topaz? - Mike could certainly draw the ladies! (as well as everything else!) :)

Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

Disney+ is going to show the color version near Halloween. They will show the B&W version earlier in the month.
