What we Do In the Shadows
I new series on FX, based on honestly a movie I never saw of the same name. FX ran the movie a number of times before the series. I found it very funny. It's a story of 4 male vampires that came to live in New Zealand. It's shot as a mocumentary and has that dry, sarcastic humor I find very funny.
The series slightly changed a little as it's now two male and a female vampire along with one's "familiar." Tho filmed in Toronto, the vampires are supposed to be living on Staten Island, NY. They get a visit from the Baron asking if they had taken over North America, and asked if Staten Island was the Seat of Power. (LOL As someone who lives on SI we are FAR from the center of anything.)
The reply was "This is where the boat dropped us off..."

Watch most of what may have been the original film. There were several vampires sharing a run down house, with an ancient Nosferatu unliving in the basement. Pretty funny stuff.

Re: What we Do In the Shadows
I was meaning to watch this. The trailers looked funny.
When I get round to these, should I watch the movie first, or skip it for the TV series?

Re: What we Do In the Shadows
.
All caught up - watched the movie (which was OK - alternated between funny and "missed the mark") and the 6 episodes so far available.
The early episodes revisited some of what was in the movie, but were an improvement because of the cast changes, new characters, and better scripts etc. (LOVE the "energy vampire" - great idea - although I think I've met some of those in real life ). The "familiar" in the TV series is also funny (and well cast).
For me, it REALLY picked up with episode 4 - with both 4 & 5 being the high points so far.
Will be watching the others.
Thanks for the nudge/reminder Kev.

Re: What we Do In the Shadows
The 3 original guys had an appearance in the latest episode, along with a lot of guest stars.

Draxx was a surprise!

Re: What we Do In the Shadows
Recently watched the 1st season and part of the 2nd.
Overall found it 'meh'. Thought it misses it's full potential and never
ever is actually that funny. Probably doesn't help that I didn't like Matt Berry in 'The
IT Crowd' and he basically plays the same git in this show.
Did like the Colin Robinson character, but overall writing isn't that great nor
funny.

Matt Berry plays the same git in everything he does, and what's worse he's also 'mr voiceover' here in the UK. Drives me up the wall.
The series isn't bad though. Some great cameos occasionaly.

Hehe, that used to be Gilbert Gottfried; until he got fired for a "too soon" joke about the earthquake/tsunami in Japan a ways back.Buc Wheat wrote:Oh you poor mother!!
