HBO's "The Watchmen"
Watching the trailers for this series did anything but excite me, but I recorded the first episode and I have to say it really grabbed me. The storyline is unique and topical but the graphic novel's DNA is absolutely there as well - in subtle and surprising ways. Well directed, fast paced , and continually surprising. Two days later, I'm still thinking about it - and eagerly anticipating the next episode.

I recently canceled my HBO because of cost and I didn't watch it much. I kind of wanted to see this though.

Funny, the audience score at Rotten Tomatoes is very bad, only 46 percent as I write this. I'm guessing longtime Watchmen comic fans aren't giving this a chance. I don't blame them much, I'm interested but would have preferred a better attempt at faithfully re-creating the story than the 2009 film gave us.

Re: HBO's "The Watchmen"
besides the movie, I've never read the series. Did watch the 1st ep last night
and kinda lost. But will follow the whole series and see how it turns out.
(btw, what's the story with the rainy worms?)

Re: HBO's "The Watchmen"
Best guess:
In the original, the creature Veidt used to unite humanity wasn't Dr manhatten but was a psychic squid like being "from another dimension" (actually from his laboratory). When it was teleported into NYC it let out a psychic shockwave that killed everyone around it. I'm guessing it also released spores or something so that the squid babies rain down and people have to find/kill them all so it doesn't happen again.
No idea yet if Veidt's plan worked in that humanity is at peace and waiting for a bigger extradimensional threat, or if Veidt is actively causing the squid rains to continue his deception, or if Veidt's plan is known and he is considered a villain for causing the deaths. We'll see.
