I've been avoiding new trailers since the last one I posted.

I don't want to see more until I actually see the movie.

Does this count as a spoiler? I suppose it might. So don't read if you don't want to know any of the speculation circulating about the movie.

Mechagodzilla is strongly rumored to be in the movie, possibly Mechaghidorah. So one fear is that at some point the movie will reveal Kong hasn't been fighting Godzilla, but Mechagodzilla.

It won't happen, but I'm still rooting for Mechani-Kong to appear.

Yeah, i'm afraid they'll have them fight, fight some more, then a 3rd threat
shows up and they join forces to fight the new threat. Pffft!

Yeesh, avoid YouTube if you don't want spoilers for the movie. I guess it's been released in some places and the clips are going up fast and furious.

According to Ye Olde Wikipedias, it's a week later for North America:

Watched it last night. Liked the fight scenes, but we'd need 4 hours
sitting around on a nice warm evening, drinking and smoking, to properly
rag over the rest of this.

Yeah - I could piss & moan about this for ages - but (for now) I'll restrict myself to:
    • 1) Best of the recent Godzilla movies.
      2) Worst of the recent Kong movies.
I think that's a fair way of grading things without going into the . . . ( . . . no, no . . . stop me, stop me now . . . )

Well, I
LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

This was like the perfect Kaiju movie.
Lots of great looks at big critters. Plenty of action, explosions, and fighting.
Super well done effects.
Human story that was interesting, but not too complicated and actually moved the monster story along instead of getting in the way, or muddying the waters.
I also loved that there was a clear-cut winner in their fight.
And no, I am not going to spoil anything and say who won, but there is a winner.

And for the record, I like this Kong better than all others. Both in Skull Island and this movie. As much as I love the original, I find this Kong to be a fully fleshed out character.

I realize it wasnt especially geared towards me at my age of 56, but as a lifelong fan of the King Kong movies, I took this film as being a bit too sci-fi, excess, and hard to “believe/get behind” as it had soooo many elements and scenes that were too 15yr old teen-ish .

It was taking the Kong character and putting him in a kiddie setting. Which I couldn’t connect with

The hollow earth and “ancient titan rivalry” was cringeworthy to me.

It diluted the original King Kong character and storyline of him living on Skull island and being worshipped as a god, as the natives offering him sacrifices as they tried to survive across the giant wall.

It took all that cool, realistic and “ believable-ness” and replaced it with waaaaaay out there sci-fi excess and a storyline that was too unrealistic and hard to get behind. It’s like Kong has joined the Justice League....

But more power to those who did love it.

But it was very well made and very, very impressive for what it was. But o don’t care to see it the second time

Too Kiddie fir me. I am a fan of the more “believable/ that could really happen” aspect of the original King Kong storyline.

but as a lifelong fan of the King Kong movies
That is where the disconnect comes from.
It diluted the original King Kong character and storyline of him living on Skull island and being worshipped as a god, as the natives offering him sacrifices as they tried to survive across the giant wall.
As much as I love the original Kong, I was never really a big fan.
I always loved Godzilla more. And I love the whole sci-fi universe that came with it.
Aliens, other giant monsters, fantastical weapons and tech.
Which is why this movie works for me, and doesn't for a lot of others of our generation.
I am sure there are lots of other Kong fans that are not big on this movie.

And that is fine. Different strokes and all that.
Everyone has their own thing that they look for in movies. I just like being able to discuss those differences reasonably, and like adults.

Funny thing is, there are a lot of die-hard Godzilla fans that are complaining that there was too much focus on Kong in this movie, and not enough spotlight on Godzilla.
Which, I can see that also.
But I think that is more a result of this incarnation of Godzilla.
As much I like the design, it doesn't lend itself to being personable. It isn't like the 70's Godzilla that was so easy to anthropomorphize. It's hard to feel connected to this big brutal force of nature they have created for this incarnation of Godzilla.
Meanwhile Kong: Skull Island gave Kong so much personality, there is no way they couldn't use that for this film. You had to give the audience one of them to connect with, someone to root for. And Kong was a natural for that role. Especially when they added in his connection to the little girl.
That was just the icing on the cake for making him the protagonist and main character.

Well - I'll add that it wasn't QUITE as bad as "Aquaman" - but it was a close call. So it's got that going for it :-k

I don't want to spoil anything for folks that haven't watched the movie OR folks that are fans of either of the characters.

I also don't want to put people off helping with the new Clubhouse funding drive because of my abuse, criticism, mockery, honest opinion (click on the pic-link top right of the screen or visit "The Garage" for our heartfelt plea to save King Kong, Godzilla, The Planet The Clubhouse).

So I'll stop there (again, for now) and will instead point you in the direction of an 8-minute, spoiler-filled mock "pitch meeting" by someone who probably WON'T give us any money to keep this place running.

I've already seen the Pitch Meeting (love those vids BTW)
And even though I love the movie, the Pitch Meeting isn't wrong.
But that is the thing about kaiju movies. Fans of the genre are not looking for realistic science, character development, or plot that makes complete sense.

We want just enough human involvement to explain and move the story along.
Lots of good looks at the kaiju themselves, and the destruction they leave in their wake.
Cool tech, that doesn't have to make a lot of sense. And lots of fighting and explosions.
