I JUST found out about this from another forum I frequent, and while it SHOULDN'T be a shock given the lady's age, this was a bit of a gut-punch.
I'm so sad to hear this, but am so grateful for the joy she gave to millions and millions of people over the years.
I only know her from the Star Trek franchise - Uhura was just so iconic - but "only" is really the wrong word to use because it minimises her impact . . . her presence lit up the screen, and when I watched the series WAY after it's original release as a teenager - well - it wasn't just the scripts and acting that kept me interested - the lady was breathtakingly beautiful . . . stunning.
I'm really quite upset about this
