Geez - was NOT expecting THAT
Lot of happy memories from those fellas - primarily from the Eliminator & Afterburner era, but also a fair bit of their earlier catalogue.
I've been away from BW&BK for over a week so obviously have lots of news to catch up on - https://bravewords.com/news/zz-top-bass ... dead-at-72
Thanks for letting us know Jeff.

Not a good week for music so far.
We also lost Joey Jordison on Monday. Founding drummer for Slipknot.
As well as Mike Howe from Metal Church.

Yeah - we didn't have MTV in the UKGlusniffer wrote:Even before MTV.
Had a few "alternative" music shows ("The Tube", "The Old Grey Whistle Test" etc.) but no MTV.
I think it was TOGWT (hosted by various pompous fashion-following twats over the years) where I first saw the "Eliminator" vid trilogy - one of those "fan vote" things where you had to ring in during the program for your pick from a list of tracks they gave (to be played at the end of THAT weeks episode or the following week). They won because of the number of metalheads calling in (me included).
They were pretty much a "secret" in Europe prior to that album.

Pretty much considered part of the southern rock culture. I still have my stub from the El Loco tour in 1981.

No ticket stub, but I do have the original vinyl releaseGlusniffer wrote:Pretty much considered part of the southern rock culture. I still have my stub from the El Loco tour in 1981.
These guys were unique, and ZZ without Dusty won't really work. Billy's been releasing some solo stuff recently, but it doesn't "do it" for me.
My Son hadn't realised that the only member of the band without a beard was named Frank Beard - he thought that was cool!

The whole gig (from 1980) is now available . . .
- "ZZ Top were guests next to Ian Hunter, Joan Armatrading and The Blues Band at the 6th "Rock Night" at the Grugahalle Arena in Essen, Germany.
The bearded blues-rock group from Texas closed the night - it was the band's first appearance outside the United States and the group's first ever television concert.
At 4 o'clock in the morning, ZZ Top entered the stage of the 6th "Rock Night" and only left after five encores at 5:30 AM.
The Rockpalast Eurovision broadcast made the three Texans famous overnight in Europe - they had long been stars in the US.
An evening in Essen's Grugahalle that is still legendary today."
