Back when these guys were building their reputation . . . my sequence was as follows:
    • The Warning (1984) - I heard about them, but wasn't that impressed (at THAT point).
Rage For Order (1986) - Absolute perfection.
      Operation Mindcrime (1988) - Ditto.
Empire (1990) - Disappointing, and stopped taking any notice of anything they released until we got Todd La Torre in 2013.

THIS (however) shows when Geoff Tate was in his best years (aged only 25) - more range than Oklahoma.

Queensrÿche - originally from "The Warning" - "Take Hold of the Flame" - Live in Tokyo 5th August 1984. Chills.

I had to watch the video to refresh my memory.

I became aware of the band with their EP Queensrÿche
and the song Queen Of The Reich thanks to my best friend seeing them open for someone at a concert.
Didn't really notice when The Warning came out, but did hear some stuff off Rage For Order that I liked. The of course Operation Mindcrime blew everyone away. Which is when I also discovered a few gems on The Warning (including the track you linked)

I too was disillusioned when Empire came out. At first I kind of liked Silent Lucidity, but then it got overplayed to death. and I realized I didn't find much else on the album to grab me other than Another Rainy Night. Later on I developed an appreciation for Jet City Woman. But I just wasn't into the direction the band was heading.
That was also right around the time I became a family man, and kind of lost the time to listen to much else other than what was on the radio, so I lost all track of what they did from there.

Blast from the past today. Thanks to a local radio station. Their Classic Cafe today (6 songs in a row at lunch time) was Armored Saint.
Talk about early 80's metal. Both sound, and the video.

Here is probably the most well known track out of the 6 they played

Was listening to a Jordan Peterson podcast when the guest, Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace talked for a bit about 1960s songwriting and cited a line from a long-familiar song ... that I never heard before (the line, not the song). Well, turns out that most of the verses in this song are pretty unintelligible - I had heard it of course, just had not understood it. Dr Peterson agreed that the songwriters "were in a pretty dark place" when they wrote it.

The line that I couldn't get out of my head because it was so creepy?

"I rode a tank, held a general's rank, when the Blitzkrieg raged, and the bodies stank."

If it doesn't sound familiar, you really need to take 6 and listen to this song again while reading the verses on the screen. Just since last night I have come to believe that this may be greatest rock n roll song lyric ever. (Not the the nicest, certainly not poppy or uplifting - but a lyric that taps into the dark side of the human soul in the creepiest, most authentic way of any song. You can easily believe that the purported "singer" in the song is in fact the one performing it. He's just looking for a little "Sympathy" ))

Brilliant - and terrifying at the same time. Click on the link.

KK's Priest - Hellfire Thunderbolt  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqOZJAZR1XM

Uploaded yesterday.

What a friggin' AWESOME (or "bostin" as we'd say back in ol' Brum) way to introduce the upcoming album.

First listen I wasn't sure - 2nd listen - SOLD !!!!!!

YES YES YES (yes) - this is what they want !!!!!!! Shows how much of Priest was KK (that's a LOT!) and why Ripper is so well respected (Demolition was brilliant even if Jugulator was not to my taste).

The solos that kick-in at 2:09 onwards give me chills - KK and the other guitarist (A.J. Mills) are a partnership that easily matches KK & Tipton. That trademark overlapping lead duo work is classic.

So reminiscent of EARLY Priest . . . al-la "Sad Wings Of Destiny", "Sin After Sin", and ESPECIALLY "Stained Class". SO pleased to hear this announced.

Turn this mutha up LOUD, LOUD, LOUDER!!!!!!!

I disagree with you.

I think this sounds more like Screaming For Vengeance era.

And why did it take you two listens?
This thing kicks all kinds of ass right out of the gate. I am looking forward to hearing more.

That's OK - given you colonials have trouble with our English accents, spelling, and sarcasm, I can understand your confusion

Looking at the track listing I'm REALLY looking forward to the next video (that they've apparently already filmed), AND the rest of the album . . .
        • 1. INCARNATION
          2. HELLFIRE THUNDERBOLT
          3. SERMONS OF THE SINNER
          4. SACERDOTE Y DIABLO
          5. RAISE YOUR FISTS
          6. BROTHERS OF THE ROAD
          7. METAL THROUGH AND THROUGH
          8. WILD AND FREE
          9. HAIL FOR THE PRIEST
          10. RETURN OF THE SENTINEL

Holy **** !!!!

There's been 2 of these in my life - one is spelled "Lizzy", and the other is "Lzzy".

One was led by a tall thin streak-of-black Irishman (ex-Midlands UK), the other is a not-so-tall thin streak of power.

I've JUST (like 20 minutes ago) been alerted to this and I've still got the chills.

This woman can do no wrong - and MAN is this track suited to her range.

I love blues rock, and I love this lady's voice :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

You are right. That song really showcases her voice and range.
Just wish I actually liked the song itself.
It's great for a dose of Lzzy, but otherwise I have no interest in hearing it again.

That's OK Trev, I've watched/listened over 20 times so far so that brings up the average :D

Can't stop humming it - I lurves me some "up" music - so catchy.

This fella's got it right too   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uonqWRIOtg4

I didn't say I didn't like it. I just won't actively search for it, or put it on.
If it comes on the radio, I'll enjoy it, but it's just too slow for me.

Besides, my musical inclinations lately have been a bit more obscure.

You want obscure ?!?!? :)

Well, not sure if the word "obscure" really applies - but although they've been around for DECADES, it's only THIS year I heard of these folks.

I’ve been meaning to post this link for a while now and kept forgetting – but then my task reminders & repeated YouTube viewing kept pulling me back in.

Well – what the heck – I’ve watched the 1st track maybe 10-15 times over the last 5 months – never fails to impress.

They sound like early/mid-period Sabbath (with Ozzy) – but better (I can hear my mate's back home preparing to burn me at the stake as I type).
  • • A bassist that models himself on Gene Simmons
    • A drummer that appreciates Elvis’ hairstyle
    • And a guitarist/vocalist that looks like the Doctor that did my back operation 14 years ago . . .
      • . . . admittedly he wasn’t carrying a 60’s model Gibson SG, but he could still be the same fella . . .
        • . . . I was on heavy pain drugs, but he DID say "so you’re a rock fan? - I’ve got your back" (honestly!) – who knew Japanese doctors use Dad humour!
Gotta love them (no . . . REALLY!)

Now. I am not a "heavy metal" fan.

*BUT*

That was DOPE. (or - Japanese can do no wrong in my book).

Thank you.

These guys are awesome. Both musically and visually.

Thanks Spike!!! :like

Spike - did you see THIS live video of them in concert? The guitarist plays a f****g THEREMIN on stage with his hands in the middle of the song!

    • Nope - hadn't seen that one - have now though (ta muchly!) They are definitely entertaining that's for sure!

There's a lot of videos out there - official and otherwise (not surprising given how long they've been around). I'm currently working my way though this 2½ hr live performance from September 2018  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3dLlgKAVVM

Meh, as much as I enjoy early Sabbath, I firmly believe they were much better with Dio. So, improving on the sound of early Sabbath isn't that hard for me to imagine.
  • • A bassist that models himself on Gene Simmons
I almost said that bassist reminds me of the bassist for Babymetal, but considering the timeline, it should probably be the other way around as these guys were around long before Babymetal.
Then again, they don't look that similar. I think it's just the bald, with the white head paint, and the hulking stance/walk. (of course this took me down another Babymetal rabbit hole)

Anyway. Cool stuff you shared there.
Again, nothing I would actively search out to listen to, but a cool listen none-the-less.

Spike - Now you've got me listening to these guys the last 3 nights.

Looks like "reaction videos" to this song in particular are spreading like wildfire on youtube. Their world tour in 2020 was cut short due to the pandemic. My guess is that they'll get a pretty hot reception when they came back (they were supposed to play Austin last year, don't know if anything came of it. Heck if they go there in 2022 I'll go to the show).

It's a slippery slope Vlad - Ningen Isu could lead to all sorts of bad habits . . . Judas Priest, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Halestorm, Status Quo, Motörhead . . . the list is endless (and it's ALIVE!)

The comments sections on the ones I linked before are as witty as they are full of praise.

And yeah - I noticed the tour from their official channel  https://www.youtube.com/c/NINGENISU/videos . . . that must have REALLY sucked for them after all these years.

I'll 100% be going if they come this way.

I've been stuck on this one lately.
It just jams so much. Such high energy and great musicianship.

Babymetal - Catch Me If You Can

Give it a try. Even if you aren't a fan of the group or genre. This one is different from a lot of their other tunes.

Apologies - listened to this on the day you posted and thought I'd replied - my bad.

I remember my 1st impressions (particularly from 1:50 onwards) were “WTH” combined with "not too bad at-all!" (even though the out-of-sync video at the start confused the heck out of me until I realised it was not meant to be all from 1 performance).

Listened again today - still like it – in fact, I LOVE it. Very catchy. They certainly know how to put on a show.

And as with "Ningen Isu", some of the comments made me laugh my ass off, E.G.:
  • • “You can’t make metal cute...” Japan: “Hold my strawberry milk.”
    • This is like Doom Eternal with Animal Crossing
    • It's like an accident. You can't stop watching.
    • Leave it to the Japanese to make even heavy metal adorable.
    • Best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek.
          • (* I REALLY need a translation of those lyrics  *)
