Most Influential?

#1 Post by Chas K »

I'm wondering who everyone thinks were the most influential bands of the Rock era? This is actually future kit related.
I'm not talking about your favorites. I'm talking about which bands you think changed the style and perception of music.

For me, the '50's are too hard to call. Haley, Cochran, Orbison, Presley etc., etc...

In the sixties, I believe The Beatles are it. From the beginning, they were different. Within ten years, they changed everything.

I think the seventies belong to The Ramones. Tired of over-indulgence (and having limited skill), they created a sound and scene that is still heavily copied today.

Etc. etc. etc.

Any thoughts are gladly welcomed.

Charlie

My opinion, for what its worth is, the Beatles changed everything. Black Sabbath invented heavy metal.

I think Cream got lost in the shuffle with Vanilla Fudge and Iron Butterfly. All very good bands in their own right. I have heard "Inna-godda-da-vita" (in The Garden Of Eden) used in more films than any other rock song.

Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly changed the way people thought about the guitar, and both were major influences on The Beatles.
