Misc Music stuff

#1 Post by tay666 »

Had a couple things I wanted to post, but didn't think they warranted a full thread.
Then realized we didn't have any kind of random thread in here.
So here it is.

First up, is the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence.
Been getting a lot of attention. For those who might have missed it, here is the official video.

But what I wanted to mention was how cool it is that Paul Simon actually likes the cover

This one is more for Ian, but I'm sure there are other Halestorm fans in here.

Awww...That's too bad.

And by the way, that Disturbed cover sucks. It makes me cringe.

This is pretty interesting

Was kind of funny watching the video.
I recognize a lot of the 'types' from back in the day.

Given how little interest I have in this band (well - it's Axl that ticks me off), I'm amazed I actually read the entire piece.

Some very funny and acerbic comments were found :lol2:

Thanks for the link Trev.

...and this author is an idiot too...re: APPETITE:
the album as a whole is probably overrated
REALLY?!?!? it's the only reason they had/have/ever will have any sort of relevancy...only reason i ever liked them...

Here is something you don't see every day.
Rob Halford, performing Priest songs with Babymetal.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... al-w429794

Su-metal seemed a bit out of her depth a couple of times, especially on Breaking The Law.
But, to be fair, she really doesn't have the pipes for that kind of song, and her band isn't a straight-up headbanging unit, so it was kind of to be expected. Overall I think she did pretty good.

What the heck did I listen to  (well, 25 seconds of listen anyways).

Halford's going to need a wheelchair under that gut soon - and he sounds like he was inhaling helium.

I've never heard of the "band" - and hope I never do again.

Ughh.

Really?
Never heard of Babymetal before?
They've been around for 2-3 years now.
Their first 'hit' was all over FB back then.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIKqgE4BwAY

Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about them. I like them in small doses, but don't actively listen to them. I think I wouldn't mind seeing them at a festival. I've heard from friends who have seen them that they are great live. (hell, they've even headlined Wembley Arena and set records there)

I find the Enter Sandman rendition on Fallon to be hysterical. On a different note, has anyone caught the PBS series Soundbreaking? Highly recommended if you're interested in the history of music, the different approaches to making music, and the sounds that make up what we listen to. Very cool stuff... I mean, who knew Tom Scholz actually created the songs on his own in his basement THEN filled a band to play it live?

yup...Scholz' genius was always highly publicized...that distinct guitar sound via the Scholz Rockman processor, etc...
