For some reason, I never really think of the Maidens as covers.
I know that technically, they are.
But to me, they seem more like tributes than covers.

But yeah, I do like their work.

Just rented the movie "Lawless" about 1930s moonshiners in Virginia. On the soundtrack is a cover of The Velvet Undergound's "White Light/White Heat" performed by 85 year old Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley. His take works amazingly well given the subject matter.

Devldriver just released a new cd and it has AWOLNATION's "Sail".It's ok or better than ok.
Also Shadow's Fall is doing Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at The Moon" pretty well.

My favorite has to be Whiskey In The Jar by Metallica, but their are so many different covers, versions, even names to this song it's almost impossible not to like at least one.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

With this thread still here, I thought I would throw one this out there. I didn't go through the 5 pages again so I hope this wasn't mentioned before. I Actually just found out recently this was a cover. I thought Grand Funk did it originally. Always one of my favorite GFR songs only to find out Eric Burden and the Animals did it. Inside Looking Out. Mark Farners guitar cracks me up. Looks like something made in shop class.

GFR version.

Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes cover Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well". The whole album is fantastic but this is my favorite cut. Starts at 30:15.

Great version, never heard it before. And that reminded me of The Rockets version. Always like theirs, just got to get by the singers 80's spandex. Rockets had a lot of great songs, never really broke out though.

Also Tom Petty does a good version. Not a fan of how he stops the vocals or a Petty fan at all really, but the music is good.

Wow - those are both excellent and I agree that The Rockets kick ass. And just for comparison - here's the original. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8dZ0No5EG5k

Agreed. I was lucky enough to see that tour before Page left. Went on a whim, not knowing what to expect. I had seen Zep once in Greensboro NC in 1975 at a notoriously bad show - Page had broken several fingers on his fret hand, Bonham was sliding off the drum stool and there was a riot in the parking lot. The band was sloppy and sluggish and it was a real disappointment. The Page/Crowes show was actually a much better Zeppelin concert than the one I had seen in '75. If Zep ever had reformed and toured without Plant - I can't think of a better replacement than Chris Robinson. Does he sound like Plant? Not really - nobody does. But he gets it right and is still one of the most charismatic front men out there. Live at the Greek proves that fact.

And speaking of Robert Plant, here he is with The Band of Joy delivering a killer arrangement of Led Zep's "Ramble On'. Stick with it - there is some phenomenal musicianship here.

And while we're on the subject of Zep - listen to this 1966 cut by The Small Faces and see if it sounds familiar.
