A breath of fresh air . . . GOODABLE

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

.

It’s true that this world can be a mean, spiteful and uncaring place.
    • But the negatives are undoubtedly emphasised by a constant barrage of bias and agenda coming out of mainstream media, and the nastiness of much of social media.
        • It can make you angry, it can make you sad.

Well – this . . . THIS - will make you cry.

Some of you might have already heard of this site (main website or social media offshoots) . . .

A really clever idea.

There are good people in this world, and nice things happening – but we don’t hear about them as much as we should.

So, for my part, thanks to all the encouraging people here and elsewhere in the collectibles / garage kit / modelling community that make this part of my life so interesting and enjoyable :thumb2:

Ahem, ahem...
Respectfully Ian, as a member of 'mainstream media' for 34 years I think we need to avoid painting with too wide a brush (this is the CH modeling group after all... :) )

We shouldn't use two well known network examples and apply their practices to all. That would be, well, biased...

But I agree good, uplifting stories need to be told - and they are. We just sometimes forget about them because of the barrage of the bad.

But that's the nature of my business. As the old anecdote goes, no one reports on the banks that don't get robbed.

Since the purpose of this thread was to share encouraging news, I'll continue . . .

Not sure what form the "newscast" will take, but I'd love it to be a regular website.

Notwithstanding the opinion of my fellow Canadian Jim Carey, I think what he and may others are referring to are the opinions so often expressed and packaged as 'news.'

People need to be able to tell the difference between opinion and fact and unfortunately many in positions of power benefit from blurring those lines so that people have a hard time distinguishing between the two.

The question Jim Carey should pose is where we would be without a free press whose primary function has traditionally been that of a watchdog on the State. Eighty per cent of the world's problems wouldn't go away. Those in power would act with impunity.

I did have a long post expanding on my thoughts regarding mainstream media et-al, but it's not the point of the thread - which was, again, pointing people at encouraging news.

Perhaps a new thread could be started if there is interest in discussing the MSM topic.

I'll add this instead . . . https://twitter.com/Goodable/status/1429515217730420738 :)

Apologies - No intent to hijack.
My posts began in an attempt to clear up a blanket statement about bias...
I'd be happy to direct anyone to the positive news stories that abound everywhere in MSM

So their Twitter account has been "suspended" for over 2 days

Maybe Twitter didn't like good news being spread

    • (* hopefully just an "automated suspension" error that will get sorted out soon *)

Delays in acting from Twitter resulted in our wee fellas being suspended for 11 days.

But they're back :D

Rather than "goodable" I got the original heads-up via a side-feed on Gina Carano's GETTR . . . but here's the main article.

The wedding must have cost a bloody FORTUNE, and I don't know the background to the individuals concerned, but this for sure gets the feels going.
