Even though it is going to be a while until I get to it, I couldn't help myself.
I've been thinking about the area I'll be using for my model workshop.
All this time spent in the basement getting my tools sorted has gotten the basement stuck in my head. So at work, I keep kicking around ideas of what should go where, etc.
So, last night while I was down there, I took some quick measurements, just to see what kind of space I am working with.

21.5 feet wide, 13 feet deep, with a little over 7 feet of height.
I think that should be enough room for what I have envisioned so far.

Wanting to get to that project has motivated me in regards to taking care of all my other stuff.
Got another 5 boxes of tools/supplies sorted out today, and half of it put away.

Well, it's been a while since I posted any pics.

Finally wrapped up the wainscoting in the dining room.
And I think that will probably be the end of this thread.

Most of the house stuff is done. There are a few things left like kitchen floor, but I think we are going to have that installed by pros in the spring. And we need a few more appliances, but for the most part it;s wrapped up. This was the last of the trim that needed done.
Now that it has gotten cold, there are a couple doors that need a little planing to open/close easier but that is just normal stuff.

My health is back to normal too, still need to put on more weight as I haven't even crossed 150 yet, but I feel great. I'd estimate my strength and range of motion is 85-90% of what it was pre-surgery. A little tightness occasionally, but I am throwing around stacks of steel at work like I used to.

For those interested, don't worry though.
I'll have another thread starting soon with the progress on my basement workshop.
I just need to actually accomplish something before I get started on that discussion.

tay666 wrote: Spent the rest of that week sick with the flu. Valve came in on Saturday, I called my electrician buddy about coming over on Sunday to help sort out those wires, he was busy but had a few minutes that night. So I ran over there even though I wasn't feeling up to it. Turns out the wires were just to the humidifier that was disconnected anyway.
Finished changing the valve on Sunday and lit the furnace. Works great!
That was on the 18th.
Spent the next week being sick and chasing water leaks.
Well, it's been roughly a year since my health issues started last year.
I feel so much better than I did then. And what followed really made me appreciate the little things.

I also finally got one step closer to actually finishing our kitchen.
We now have handles on our cupboard doors and drawers!

We still need to decide on flooring, but aren't really in a rush for that just yet.

tay666 wrote:Quick update.
Clean bill of health from the doctor on Monday, started back to work on Thursday with no restrictions.

Last Sunday we moved all the furniture to the new house. Since then, we have gotten settled in, and the big things taken care of.
Still a lot to do, but I am back online, though I will probably still be scarce around here for a while as I still have a bunch of stuff to move from the old place, and a lot of stuff to get done around here.
Can't get it done if I'm sitting on the computer.
Well. roughly a year since we moved into this new place.
Still trying to sell the old place.
Have an annual visit with my lung specialist coming up. (was supposed to be yesterday, but they couldn't get the one test done last week, so have to wait)
Should still be fine. Today at work, on the radio, they had a 6-pack of Maiden tunes at noon. I sang along at the top of my lungs for all 6 songs and could still carry the notes as long as Bruce does (just not nearly as pleasant on the ears :D )

Last couple weeks, my time has been eaten up with trying to get my website moved to a new host. Major PITA.
Backing up all the files, just in case (All 73,321 of them)
Then they couldn't do the free migration for me because of the control panel at my old host. So, now I am uploading all those files to the new site.
Transferred domain management, and updated nameservers. Waiting for that to propagate so I can see if anything got messed up. Then will deal with that.

But, with the special they were running I got two years of hosting for almost half of what one year was going to cost me at my old host.

I have noticed the occasional sluggishness.
While annoying, it hasn't been bad enough to consider a switch.

There is so much involved with that. First trying to find a reliable host that will give you as-good, or better service than the current one. Also, at a reasonable price.
And, that won't disappear in a year or two.
Then there is always the risk that something may go wrong during the move, or things won't be quite as compatible on the new service.
So, before we consider switching hosts things would have to get a lot worse.
Our current host has been pretty good at fixing things when things get fluke-y.
• Good luck with the web service move!
Oh, it's been all kinds of fun already
Been dealing with things I've never delved into before.
Yesterday I finally figured out why my HTM pages were displaying fine, but my HTML pages were just showing the code.
Now I just figured out why my menus aren't displaying.
My new hosts servers don't support frontpage extensions, so now I have to figure out an alternative, then update all the pages in the Prehistoric Scenes section of my site.

I agree that changing hosts when the current one is working alright is a ve-r-r-yy dicey proposition. (Then again, I know squat about the entire topic of website hosting.) But, didn't we just pay for a few years of service in advance last year? So my vote would be "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Current host charges $150/month - this will expire March 2021 - just over 1½ years away  http://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewtop ... 4&t=119011

If there is a cheaper option - ESPECIALLY given the DRASTICALLY reduced active membership (and resulting bandwidth decrease) - well - no brainer.

Those that generously donated kept this SANE corner of the internet ALIVE - I'm all for options that INCREASE the length of time we exist.

If there's nothing cheaper/equivalent then so be it - but it would be a shame if we missed alternatives that would extend the precious funds we have.

Don't know about the rest of you - but if this place goes - so do I (as regards communication in the hobby).

To quote a certain Mr. Tucky - just sayin' :)

Thank you for the compliment on the dinning room.

The workshop thread is already going

Though it has been basically on hold now for a few months since I have added working on the old house to hopefully make it more desirable to buyers.

Still haven't dealt with my navigation menu issue yet.
Been busy trying to get my gallery up and running.
That became a priority when I realized that my old hosting runs out Sunday night. Wanted to make sure it was up and running before I lost all access to the database on the old host.
That was Sunday night, Monday night, and most of this evening.
The problem is, I don't mess with this stuff.
I set up my coppermine gallery at the beginning of 2014. Other than actually using it, I haven't done anything with any of the back end since the original install.
So I had to relearn what to do to migrate a database. Then I had problem getting a back-up dump of the DB from the old host (I kept getting zip files with 0 bytes of data). Finally resorted to a text dump of the tables and data.
Then the fumbling around trying to import it.
Then, since my install was so old it wouldn't work on PHP 7.
So then I had to figure out how to change my PHP version on my server, so I could get the gallery up and running, so I could then upgrade it, then change my PHP back to 7.2.
(which of course lead to a whole nother set of headaches finding all the information I needed for my config file, so it could access the DB properly and all that jazz)

I cannot wait until I am done with this.

Thanks. I know I will succeed eventually.
It's just aggravating. I go on this big learning curve to figure out what I need to do, and how to do it. Then all that knowledge does nothing afterwards.
By the time I need it again, I will have forgotten it all, or everything will have completely changed again anyway.

At least when I learn physical skills, they stick with me.
The muscle memory always kicks in.

First of all, my one year follow up with the specialist went well as expected.
Lungs and scar are healing nicely. CAT scan looked very good.

Hopefully, there will be a small update in the 'workshop' thread this weekend.

Right now though, I want to show what's been tying up my time recently.

Image

That is series of pics of the bank of 5 windows on the front of my porch.
Showing the condition they were in before I started.
Then after I got them scraped, sanded and re-caulked.
Then after they were primed.

I've got pics of the other 6 windows and door for that porch, but that would just be repetitive. They were all in the same condition and required the same amount of prep work. Which was a lot. Lots of scraping. And then more scraping.
Every time I thought I was done, I'd see more lose paint to deal with.
Just like with model kits, the prep work makes all the difference in the finished product.
This has been ongoing for the last 3 weeks +.
A lot of that was actual work, but there were also delays due to weather, and lack of motivation. Mainly the weather has been my biggest enemy.
I've been wanting to do this since before we moved in. But I had other things that were higher priority. Then it was too cold. Then spring was too wet. And summer was too hot and humid. Mainly humid. You don't want to be priming and painting wood that has too much moisture in it. You can, but the work won't last nearly as long.
Of course, I started off like gangbusters. Scraped and prepped the door, the window to the left of it, and the 3 windows on the left side of the porch in one day.
Primed it all the next day. (that was the first weekend)
Then it rained for a couple days.
Finally got the weather to cooperate and got the 2 windows on the right side scraped. Was going to prime on Friday until I got to looking at my work and saw more loose paint. So Friday was spent doing more scraping. Thought I could finish it off over the long weekend. But after priming the 2 windows Saturday afternoon, I started scraping those 5. Got a lot done. Things still looked promising. Until it rained Sunday. Then I lost all motivation and got very little done on the Monday holiday.
Then the rest of the week was tied up working 10 hour shifts and getting yard work done at both houses. Along with some rain sprinkled in here and there.
Finally got those last 5 windows done this past weekend.
Hopefully this coming weekend I can get the whole thing painted.
I'm gonna need a whole day. Using a good exterior oil-based paint. So I want to do all of it in one shot so I only have to clean my brushes once.
I love oil-based for exterior work, but I really hate the clean-up.

If a job's worth doing - it's worth doing well!

You'll get there - and you'll be much happier knowing you did things properly.

Last time I had to do something like this was WAY back in Aug/Sept 1979 - front porch + window/windowsill and every window on me Mum's house. Tangerine orange & white combo's. HUGE job that kept me occupied that Summer - but totally worth it as me Mum kept showing off to everyone what her young Son had done for her (my Mum's awesome!)

As always - I time (and recall) my life & events by music - and I particularly remember Status Quo's newly released "Whatever You Want" single blaring on the radio, along with Sammy Hagar's "Trans Am" :D

Happy, simple times, before responsibilities started taking over.
