First Time Empty Nester

#1 Post by kevtk135 »

My one and only finally went off to college. Knew it was coming for a while obviously, but whew - it's tuff to adjust.
What I think makes it a little more difficult is that we had him when we were older - I was 42 when he was born - and we were by ourselves. Unlike some others, we had no family around to help. It was all on the wife and I. I basically went to work, and then came home and was Mr. Mom. Even when he went to grammar and high schools there was always one eye on the clock to pick him up, or being chauffeur to take him to and from the various wrestling matches etc... Now it's too different, too quiet.
Feel a little better getting it out.

Kev,

Be Proud, you did your job as a parent, now you can enjoy watching him become the man you imagined.
But remember, he will always be your kid and you will be there if he needs you!

You raise them to fly.....and they do
It's not that I think stupidity should be punishable by death.

I just think we should take the warning labels off of everything and let the problem take care of itself.

Bet it does seem strange now. Our empty nest keeps getting filled again - seems they fly back every once in a while for extended stays!!

Thanks guys. I often teased him that it would be good to remodel his old room back into the hobby room I once had before getting banished to the attic. But nah, I can't do it. LOL

Steve: yeah really strange. We spent so long waiting for him to get here (we had problems) then he was here for seemingly a blink of an eye, now he's off to learn his vocation.
