Scenes from a Modeler's Move ...

#1 Post by bucketfoot-al »

So, here's the scene in the garage currently. Just over 30 days left before its all loaded up for an 1850 mile trip to San Antonio, TX.

Yes, all of those boxes are "modeling stuff". Packed very carefully. "You know all those boxes are yours" my wife mentions from time to time.

Lucky I build most of my dioramas with removable figures and pieces for easier wrapping and packing .. but ... its still a HEY more stuff than there was when we moved into this house 4 years ago ... and I really have not done much model-wise during that time ...

I feel your pain.
We moved 3 years ago, and I still have a ton of boxes to unpack.

My Uncle (Sam) helped me to escape from NJ back in 1992 ... it was already getting to be intolerable back then (remember Governor "Flim Flam Florio"? ) From '89-'92 I had a 50-mile door to door commute from Lawrenceville to Parsippany - I calculated that I spent an entire MONTH of 24-hour days every year behind the wheel commuting. :( :(

The move was easy back then because I traveled light! Times change.

Well, yes, but a. I'll be able to take my time doing it and b. I will have help as we have young, strong and healthy family members down there! :D Also the house is about 1500sf bigger than the one we are selling here in CA (and cost a lot less) so I'll be able to "spread the models out" ...

No, actually I did not move to NJ until after I graduated law school. If you must know I grew up in Queens, NY (after I came to the States as age 11) .... ... and the country I came from technically no longer exists ... so I decided to call Texas home on account of the hospitality of the folks down there as I experienced it for 8 years when Uncle Sam had me stationed down there ... so I AM going home (in a manner of speaking) ... :rolf: (What can I say - my life has been interesting)

Count on it Bill! ETA is September 2, approximately (barring any unforeseen delays). (We do plan on doing some major traveling to visit family overseas shortly after we arrive, but we will be back for good around the middle of October.)

Do you have any gigs the first two weeks of September and if so, where? (You can message me on FB).

Day 3 of the Texas move-in. Unpacking boxes is going nicely (won't bore you with pics of THAT). As you enter our home, the first thing you see halfway down the hallway is this display nook ... the first display piece I set up ... 23" tall, the skeleton staircase from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.:drool2: (When you go from 2000sf to 3400sf, you find that there's a LOT more room for displaying stuff!!!

Yes they did - fortunate that my brother in law did the moving for us and treated everything with TLC. :D

As far as room goes .. truth be told, my "display areas" have been restricted by the boss ... (fortunately they can easily handle twice what I have built up so far ... so its all good ... ) I have to agree with my wife - I had a LOT of model boxes (most of them in the 'stash' category). Yikes!

It's obvious you are a master of not only building kits, but a master at decorating as well. Looks like your new place will be just fine.
