Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-10-31
Slimmed down right shoulder,
Cut arms and hands to prepare for attaching the wings
Cut wings to attach to repositioned xenomorphus arms versus original dragon arms
Started adding alien tubing details to wings
Roughed in back spikes , still need to sharpen these up

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-02
Sharpened up the back spikes
Started attaching the wings
I need to narrow down the alien tubing detail on the outer wing finger
I will also reposition and reshape the last wing segment to make it larger and more concave in shape so that the wing is much more visible from the front head on view .

Cut the wing at the second finger and then reattached two end segments at a sharper angle
Still need to smooth out and refine where two wing parts join and add back the alien tubing details

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-03
Thanks Trevor - I am hoping so!
The challenge with most winged creature kits is that the wings are usually too small (in my opinion).
So, I started roughing in an additional wing segment to make the wings a bit larger.
And since I modified angle of wings, I also had to cut off and reposition some of the wing finger claws.

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-03
Continuing to add extra wing segment on left wing
Attached right wing, but need to add extra wing segment
Lots of work and detailing left to do on the wings.
Although I currently need to keep a stain can under the tail for balance, I did a quick test of putting the head on the wire supports and the kit is very well balanced.
I think the larger wings are now in better scale with the oversized head, tail, legs and feet.
I am pretty sure I will have to make the chest much larger.
I may also have to extend the length of the torso, but not sure about that as it may throw off the balance.

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-06
Even though aliens have huge heads, I decided to try and make the head look a bit smaller.
So I cut out the back of the jaw and head between the two side horns.
The head is still the same exact length but now appears a bit smaller than before.
I may slim down the upper jaw too; but I will wait until after I beef up chest and sculpt the neck to decide.

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-06
Added tubing details to left wing
Threw on some paint just to see how it looks all tied together
I may have to reduce the web arc of the added left wing segment , seems a bit too “billowed” ?
Balance is too backheavy due to added wing segments and reduced head size, but hopefully this will be solved by beefing up chest and adding in neck .
Still have to add on an extra right wing segment , sculpt neck, and beef up chest.
Not sure about color scheme ; easiest would be to just go with all gloss black ; or maybe add in some red wing webbing ..
your suggestions for improvements or color scheme are always welcome.

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-07
Thanks for the feedback and confirming my concern Trevor.
It’s a lot of work to cut the webbing out and redo it; but much better to do it now versus later….
I also think I will get rid of the side double-toes on the feet; the feet seem a bit too big and clunky
One step forward , 2 steps back…the joys of kitbashing

Cut out the left wing extended segment webbing.
Next version will be much flatter with only a slight arch
Cut off outside double side toes/claws

Roughed in bottom half of extended wing segments
I think that the now much flatter look on the webbing is better than the original arched version
Lots of refining and detailing left to do on the wings

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-10
Thanks !
I am very anxious to build up the neck and attach the head.
But I need to finish the wings first as it will be much harder to turn and handle the kit as necessary to detail the wings after I attach the head.

Started smoothing and detailing the added wing segments
Cut off hump and smoothed out transition from back of hands down into wings
Cut off and repositioned hand fingers for a more aggressive pose

Refined the modified hands, thickened and lengthened some of the fingers a bit
Reworking feet, making the toes thinner and reducing their height
Slimmed down bottom leg segment
Continuing to smooth out and detail wing webbing
Started roughing in the neck

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, new pics 2022-11-12
Thanks B-A!
as usual, I thought this one would be quick and easy, just throw on some wings…but no, taking lots of work
Decided to significantly scale down the head.
Cut out the back side horn and middle section of the alien back of head
Cut the top off of the upper jaw and made the tapering from eyes to the nose much slimmer and more drastic
Narrowed the gap between the upper and lower jaw
Reworked the ridges from the alien back of the head down over the eyes
Added more teeth , and sharpened up all the teeth
Still need to add back in the alien tendons from lower jaw to upper jaw and do some refining of details.
