How are your 2023 model contest entries coming along ?

How are your 2023 model contest entries coming along ?
My contest entry status is as follows:
4 completed
3 on my work bench in progress. I should have these all completed by end of march.
4 more that are painted but that I need to rework a bit to make them contest worthy
And I still need to figure out how to pack them all for the 10 hour drive to wonderfest
Good luck to all of you who are bringing kits to the contest.

Right now, I stand at 3 done and ready to travel.
Four are almost done.
5 others have a decent shot even though they aren't that far along yet.

I haven't managed to get to the workbench since I posted that.
Too much real world crap going on.

I hear you!
I am struggling to complete the ones I have in progress.
I am putting in the time but I keep taking two steps backwards for every step forward, even more than usual for me during the painting phase…

Re: How are your 2023 model contest entries coming along ?
I've got 4 done, and several more in the works (at least 75% done). As the clock winds down, it gets hard to fight the urge to cut corner's just to meet the contest deadline (which can compromise the quality of your finished piece).
I gotta keep mindful of the lesson I learned several years ago when I worked feverishly on a build right up to the night before the contest. Having spent more time on the kit and not so much time on a base, I was faced with entering it sitting on something quite plain in comparison. I spent the whole day compromising the vision I had for this real "kick ass" contest entry just to get it done. At about 3a.m. I said "Screw it!, just enter it next year".
During the following year I was able to spend the time creating a proper base that added an environmental match to showcase the centerpiece figures. Pushing the entry back 12 months paid off, as it received a gold award the next year. Lesson learned!

Most definitely. I've run into that almost every year.sparkvark007 wrote:I've got 4 done, and several more in the works (at least 75% done). Which is why some projects just fall to the wayside as time goes on. I know I won't be able to do what I want to do by the deadline. So I stop working on that, to give more time to those that can be finished.
That said, there have been plenty of times I finished kits in the hotel room the night before entering them.
The thing that really worries me, is the weather is starting to get nice.
That means, soon I will have to deal with outdoor projects. Taking even more time away from the workbench.

For someone coming from So. CA, what's the best way to take a 1/6 figure to WF? Ship, take with you, find a transporter...????

Making a little bit of progress
6 completed
3 on the workbench, modifications are done, painting is in progress
4 more hopefully (3 of these only require some minor paint tweaking)
But quickly running out of time

Having traveled by air to WonderFest for the last 20+ years, I would highly recommend taking the entry on the plane with you to ensure the best chances of it arriving safely to your destination. In fact, I try and engineer my builds so they can be broken down and fit into a cardboard box that fits securely under the seat in front of you on the plane.mjbare wrote:For someone coming from So.
