Playboy magazine to drop nude photos by March 2016

It's the end of an era...

Story here: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/13/busin ... p=cur&_r=1

I don't know about the rest of you, but to me, Playboy without nude photos is like "The Walking Dead" without zombies!

Frankly, in this day and age when you can find absolutely any image imaginable by doing a Google Image search magazines have to do something to remain relevant.
A monthly magazine that relies on photos of nude women cannot hope to compete with the volume of on-line material available free.
Playboy's subscription numbers have sunk from a high of 5.7 million in 1975 to 800,000 today.
If Playboy wants to continue as a magazine then it has to focus its resources on those things for which people buy magazines.

Now all those Playboy magazines will become instant collectors items on auction sites and heh, husbands may finally be allowed to buy Playboy .... if the boss allows it. Karl

I agree with each of your points, but I have to observe that it's wishful thinking on the management's part. You're right about being able to get the adult content pretty much everywhere, but the adult content was really the only reason to buy Playboy. You can get all the rest of the content elsewhere, too. I think it's a matter of time until the mag goes out of business altogether.

Someone on my local radio radio did a bit about it and it's all about the accountants. It was said that these young, up and coming starlets can go to Maxim (et al) magazine and wear a small top or short shorts and get their publicity, without having to take it all off in the pages of Playboy.

Playboy did have some great humor and science fiction stories in the old days.
Actually if it weren't for the stories, articles, and illustrated stuff I would not have bought the magazines at all.

I can think of two particular sci-fi stories that were first seen in the pages of Playboy: George Langelaan's famous short story, "The Fly", first published in Playboy in 1957, and which was the basis for the classic sci-fi movie of the same name; and Stephen King's short story "Word Processor of the Gods" (under the simpler title "The Word Processor") in 1983.
