Comic book sales on deep decline

#1 Post by scuzzfink85 »

I read a link about Marvel comics sales are really deep decline
over last few years and even Disney can't won't save them..
DC is in same boat with very low sales.. a long time
comic book collectors said there not worth money anymore..
As far paying the high price.. makes me wonder would
anybody want open comic book shops, the ones I went to in the past
always complained of low sales..
I see more comic book stores going out of business.

Not sure but in Japan eManga, eBooks are popular now, lots of sites now offering a large selection past and current. Bookshops and 2ndhand Bookshops are declining fast from what I saw during visits.

It really is a self-feeding loop at this point.
Less sales = smaller print runs.
Smaller print runs = higher cover price to cover costs.
Higher cover price = lower sales.

I stopped collecting in 1986 when the price went to .75

Up til then I was buying, probably, 50-60 titles, some multiple
copies. Just cudn't afford it over time. Cut back, cut back
some more and then just let it go.

Similiar thing happened w/ NonSports Card collecting. The
chase cards, then the signature cards, and before you knew it,
a piece of cardboard w/ a picture on it went from .15 a pack to
over $3.90!

Another love of mine that had to go! Miss opening packs hoping
to make a set & reading the latest issue of DD or Spidey!

oh well.

The cold hard fact is that up against other forms of entertainment they are poor value for money. If you read every word they rarely take more than 10 minutes to get through.
