Amazing Figure Modeler issue 60, out of stock

#1 Post by lsamuels »

I've been catching up on the Amazing Figure Modeler issues that I missed for the past few years, buying them from the AFM website. I notice AFM 60 isn't available from them, or anyone else. Is there any particular reason it's been bought out? Was there some particular content that made it "desirable"? (For instance, some of the "Girl Kit" issues used to bring higher prices...)

Here's the content as listed on the AFM website:

#############################
Issue #60 - SOLD OUT
DEADITORIAL: A guest editorial from George Stephenson, owner of Black Heart Models.

THE WONDERFEST MOST AMAZING MODELER AWARD: AFM congratulates David Dill on his Wonderfest Best!

CARACOLILLA: the song of Blackheart Models’ sea siren lures Steve Riojas!

THE SHIFLETT BROS. TAKE HOME GOLD!: Brandon and Jarrod Shiflett- AFM spotlights the Shiflett Bros. Spectrum award-winning series of original sculptures.

ECTO SKELETAL ANGER: Jim Lawrence tames Todd Rex’s angry alien!

MASHAAF: The worm has turned, and Jason Walker is there to model Reaper Miniatures’ Mashaaf!

IT CAME FROM THE GARAGE: Terry J. Webb presents the latest releases on the Garage Kit scene.

A DIORAMA IN RUINS: Phil Sera creates a dynamic post-apocalyptic diorama with Simon Lee’s creatures.

AFM PROFILE- SCOTT WHITTWORTH: Jim Bertges has a conversation with the multi-talented Scott Whittworth.

WARRIOR FROG: Rick Cantu makes a big splash with Jeremy Monz’s amphibian warrior!

LADY CLANKINGTON: Gordon Oberman gets in gear and models a clockwork cutie from Garage Kits U.S.!

AFM PROFILE- THOMAS KUEBLER: Terry J. Webb explores the Kuebler Exhibition of Wonders and Oddities!

OUT OF THE DEPTHS: David Prosser trolls the deepest of waters and reels in Collapse Industries’ Abyssal Tyrant!
#####################################################################

It sounds good, and the cover article (Lady Clankington) looks interesting. Did something make this issue sell out?

Thanks for any info.

This issue has been out of stock on the AFM website for a LONG time since at least May 2017 (3 years ago).

It might have been this that caused it  "LADY CLANKINGTON: Gordon Oberman gets in gear and models a clockwork cutie from Garage Kits U.S."

I seem to remember the kit being REALLY popular. It was released at the May 2014 Wonderfest and was also the kit used for Jesse's class that year (his 2nd year running that):

The article by Gord in AFM#60 (from 2015) is suberb.

You can occasionally find back issues on e-bay or you can post in the Swap and Sell forum and/or on many of the FB modelling groups.
I'm sure it won't take too long to locate one.
In fact there's one for sale right now:

Not surprising, frankly, that a three-year old issue is no longer available.

That's true - they print so many copies and when all are sold that's it. The content of the issue may have helped the sell-out. I'm sure if AFM ever does a digital release kind of like what FSM did with back issues putting on a disc it will be included.

As suggested - watch ebay, check Amazon and other book sites. You can also run a request on here asking for it. Someone may be willing to part with their copy.

Thanks folks! Interesting point about the Wonderfest class. I've been watching Ebay, etc.

AFM sells one digital copy of an older issue (#41); I might drop them a line and suggest they do the same for this, one. We'll see!

I had to seek a back issue because I bought the kit and this was well after the mag sold out. I found a copy on eBay. Shouldn't be too hard to find a copy. It is a fantastic kit and sold well so those that bought it (like me) wanted this issue.

I contacted AFM and apparently they're thinking of making some PDFs of issue available. It may take some time.

Great news! The PDF of issue 60 is now available from the AFM website (as well as some PDFs of other out of print issues). Go buy some and support this great magazine!

Big thanks to David Fisher and Terry Webb for making this happen.

If anyone is after a printed copy - there are a couple up on eBay right now.

Both shipping from the U.S.
