EVERY DAY there's one of the ladies in my office telling a story about their grade-school-age kid (mostly daughters) who have gotten sexted or gotten threatening texts or gotten profanity/perverse sex laden texts...ALL FROM OTHER GRADE SCHOOLERS...solutions have ranged from meeting with principals, meeting with local police, school suspensions...just totally out-of-control...and all these kids wanna join facebook but their folks give them the BIG thumbs down!!!
these chilluns ain't ready for all this...they all may be intelligent as hell but they got no common sense or judgement...

Well. If its true, my co-worker Shannon is down to her last brain cell. She hits the stairwell every hour because she gets a phone-jones, but shes either texting someone or posting menutia on FB. I swear that damn things glued to her hand because her hand is allways in her apron.
But as far as brain damage????? I was going through a school zone slow enough to see a motorcycle cop leaning on his bike..............TEXTING!
I think sooner or later someones gonna invent something that will send a signal that WILL fry the brains of cell users.
Im still working on it..........................

It's funny(well not really)to read all of those solutions. The easy way to fix this problem is to take away the cell phones. Gosh, that would be harsh. Why, those kids probley would just die. Please tell me how they would make it though the day. This is no different than rape IMHO. People need to wake up.

<RANT> As someone who commutes by bicycle every day of the year, I really do hope that legislation on usage and *privilege* of cell phones (as in they are not a right, they are a convenience) is taught in driving school. Texting or yapping into a cell phone is tantamount to drinking and driving as far as I'm concerned. I've had people almost hit me while adjusting the radio or just sipping coffee; there is no way you can be driving in a safe manner while using a cell phone in any way. </RANT>
As far as age, I think it should be the same as driving. If you can't use a phone in a responsible manner by the almost the same age my Grandmother had her first child (of 12), you cannot be allowed to use one in public. PERIOD.
Whew.... That must have been building up for awhile!

Drivers are still responsible for over 90% of all incidents where cyclists are injured. There was just an article in the NY Times about this.
<//Still ranting>
I back this 100%! I have one for convienience sake. I dont text. And Im very annoyed when I get a call, text, or message......And I dont like the monthly bill that Im obligated to.

I spent the better part of saturday shopping for much needed things. Clothes, a few doo-dads for the hobby, food, medicine.....what should have taken only a few hours took half my day in traffic and in the stores. People on their phones! That and 400 lbs+ women blocking EVERY isle 'on the phone,' totally oblivious that the world is turning and 'you are in my way because MY time is important to me,". I applaud the stores and shops with a posted message.."We will be happy to do buisness with you when your through with your IMPORTANT phone call!"

Actual event that reads like a dumb blonde joke.
My niece once tried to make a grilled cheese sandwich in my toaster, not toaster oven just plain old style toaster. She toasted two slices of bread then put several slices of cheese in to get them hot. It was an incredible mess.
A grand niece once came by and said her car sometimes would start. The guy at the gas station had asked it she left the radio on a lot, and she had done that.
He said she might need a new battery.
So she tells me all this then brings out a shopping bag. She said she couldn't find the battery compartment for the radio on the dash board. Also since she didn't know what size battery cars took she had gone by the mall and bought a pack of each. She had AA , AAA, C, and D size batteries.
Luckily she is a knock out (built like Eva Mendes with more up top) and had once posed for a Hooter's Calendar, so she can get by very well on her looks.

Right?
there's a difference between the mild innate distraction and driving 45 in the middle lane on the tollway...or needing 2 lanes the last 8 miles of road...

Over the past 2+ years Ive put more than $3,000 into my truck for the same things, fouled plugs, burnt air censors etc. @ times the radio would go straight up on the volume, the wipers would kick on and the truck would spit and sputter. It has/had a sattelite radio. These problems would occur when ever I drove past the hospital, over the local dam or within the area of a cell-phone tower. I figure the signals were interfering with the computer. Mechanics said that had nothing to do with it. 3 weeks ago I dissconected it and its been smooth sailing. Anyone else heard of this problem?

a 41 yr old man here in michigan is going on trial for an incident caused by texting while driving. his cell records show that he was texting when he blew through a stop sign and struck another car, being driven by 2 senior citizens, killing one of them.
of course one of the dumbest things ive ever beard of happened about 10 years ago: my late brother was put out of his last regular 9 to 5 job thanks to someone on their cell. he was a truck driver, and ,while he was waiting for workers at a warehouse to unload his truck, he was run over by someone driving a hi-lo while yacking on their cell.

A coworker of mine lost his life after work last year due to texting while driving. This scenario is becoming common these days.
I passed a church recently recently and their sign out front where they always have weekly quotes read this:
"Jesus: If you want to see me Sooner, keep texting while driving"
