I used to have a lot of early Marvels, including some first issues -- all gotten for a song as a kid at a small town antique shop in southern Illinois (5 cents each!!!). Avengers#1, Daredevil #1, Spidey #2, X-Men #2 -- most of the early Annuals, TOS #39. Sold them when they started to be worth some "real money" -- as in $20 or $30 per! Sigh....

Well, I still have the first Spider-Man Annual -- but my copy of "Fanboy," a rare Xeroxed underground comic just might be worth more. Hard to say, as they rarely come up for sale, there only really being a handful of copies.

My current understanding is that with comic books now that unless they are stored in special plastic bags with acid free backings.... you won't get much.

I have SpiderMan #5 on and they are stored in plastic bags and stored in comic boxes.

Looked at unloading them at a comic show a few years ago (about 4-5 years ago) and I got no takers because of how they were stored. :ooops:

They also have a new rating system ( if I recall correctly)... but I have been out of the loop for many years.

selling back issues is really hard at comic shows (sadly, comic conventions aren't really for comic books anymore it seems) as the vendors only want to unload current inventory.

as far as comic rating/grading, yeah, it's a whole new ball game with the professional grading market out there; if it isn't Mint condition, you're looking to get 1/2 of a Poor or Good grading price value . . . IF YOU'RE LUCKY!!! unless it's a landmark issue or from the silver or golden age.

i really toiled with the idea when i sent some books in to get graded. did i really want them to be forever in a hardcase that i could never open to look at the book again? sadly, for insurance purposes, i did for my family's sae . . . such a horrible double edge sword; for sports cards i can understand as there's only two side, but for comics i get to look at only the front and back? sad, sad day when i did it . . .

Not sure I understand the question, But I mentiomed the Marvel Essentials, that tell the stories, but are in black and white. Which could easiley be repo'd, But in the 1st volume, All the cover shots are darkened. X-ample......

Werewolf By Night 1 near mint condition.

Superman1 is so over valued , not because it's
easy to find. It's because of acid based paper is basically eating it self.
no amount of acid free backing boards or special plastic will
stop this process,. I use to be a big comic junkie, but sold most mine
just kept monster stuff.
I look I ebay, I see all the stuff I sold for some money years ago.
Is now worthless. I might rebuy some it back 8)

Well, they're not my favorite anymore, and probably not all that
mainstream, but I just priced them the other day:

I've got First Printings of Issues 2, 3, and 4, in mint condition of
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Going for roughly $225-$250 apiece.

Now to just find a buyer..... LOL
