Ok, just saw it this afternoon.
I both loved it, and disliked part of it. If that makes any sense.
I felt great leaving the theater. I was happy. I liked the story, and how it played out, and how Godzilla was the hero and saved the day.
But I can't call it an awesome Godzilla flick.
It's a good film with Godzilla playing a main role, but he wasn't the star.
That army dude was the star of this movie.
Godzilla should be the star of his own movie, it's kind of a law I think.
That, and the way we got to see so little of the actual action were the things I disliked.
Now, with that out of the way, I will say I will own this as soon as it comes out. And I will watch it several more times. It is a good movie, and being able to slow down and pause parts of the fight scenes is gonna be kind of fun.
There was a lot to like. G looked pretty good on screen. Though I do have to agree with a comment my daughter made on FB. She said all through the movie she kept thinking he's gotten pretty fat in his old age.

But the angles the showed, and the power he exuded on the screen really counteracted a lot of complaints about the design. I could read a lot of intelligence and attitude in his face. Not sure if that was something they purposely did with the CGI, or I was just reading more into the scenes than there was. But it was there for me, and it made me happy.
And someone (hopefully here in the states so I can afford it) better make a kit of that victory scene with him roaring to the sky while holding the MUTO head in his hand.
Speaking of the MUTO. Better than I hoped.
Granted they weren't awesome designs, but they were better on screen than I feared they would be. And the parts they were in, helped give them a bit of a personality and 'realness' that I didn't think we would get. I figured they would be some kind of generic monster for the plot device and that would be about it.
Oh yeah. Almost brought a tear to my eye in the stadium scene when the crowd applauded and cheered when G got up and walked away.
