Aurora almost made a Conan kit back in the day.

#1 Post by tay666 »

Been meaning to discuss this since Wonderfest.

During the presentation by Andy Yanchus one of the slides he showed had something that blew my mind.
Aurora was actually kicking around the idea of a Conan kit.

They were going to pair it up with the snake from the LOTG kit.
The image showed the snake with a comic type Conan next to it.
Looked like the top of the snake's head was about shoulder high to Conan, so I am not sure what scale that would have been.

The Conan looked like the classic Buscema, with him holding his axe over his head about to swing it at the giant snake.

How cool would that have been.
Heck, I'd love to see it now.

Sounds like a cool presentation sorry I missed it. A nifty idea and nice use of the LOTG snake!

It was a popular series back in those days. I still have all my original Ace and Bantam paperbacks from that time. So Aurora considering it is in many ways not surprising. It would have been a hit if Frazetta art was use as the base to sculpt the figure.

Actually, they were going with more of a Marvel Comics look.
At least that is the way it looked.
This kind of style

Which makes sense.
The kits were aimed at kids, kids read comic books.
Plus, I doubt Aurora couldn't have come close at capturing a Frazetta Conan.
This, OTOH they could have gotten close.
